Rounding up all the biggest Spider-Man news and rumors of November
Now that November is officially behind us, it's time to look back at all the biggest Spider-Man news and rumors of the month. From a possible Spider-Man 4 delay all the way to the reveal of the ridiculous reason why Peter can't have a lasting marriage in comic book pages, there's a lot to dissect here. So let's kick things off with the most exciting "reveal" of them all; Venom could finally cross paths with the friendly neighborhood hero on the big screen. Yes, it's finally happening.
Sony accidentally teased Venom will be in Spider-Man 4
Talk about dropping the ball. On November 22, Sony Japan issued a press release hinting that Tom Hardy's Venom will make an appearance in the untitled Spider-Man 4. The post has now been deleted, which only reaffirms even further that the web-slinger will indeed cross paths with his dark counterpart. Finally, the cat's out of the bag. An idea that was once just speculation and a wave of rumors is now all but confirmed, and it was all thanks to one simple text:
“Tom Holland, who plays Peter, has already given his stamp of approval to the story! "This will be a real movie that fans can respect!" Is Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie in the "Venom" series, ready to take part?”
Audiences witnessed the Venom symbiote perish in the final moments of Venom: The Last Dance. However, it's important to remember a slight piece of it was left behind in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. So there's a great possibility Peter could bond with it, finally getting to sport the black suit on the big screen before Eddie Brock eventually gets ahold of his other and turns into Venom once again. However, this time he'd finally sport the white distorted spider symbol on his chest. It's what fans have wanted for some time now, and it looks like it will finally come true.
From a delay to a shocking death; Spider-Man 4 rumors grew rampant
Spider-Man 4 rumors have grown rampant even before the movie's official announcement. November was no different as many new reports made their way online to give us a better idea of when production might begin, who could join the cast, and what the script could look like. Some reports indicate Sony and Marvel could be crafting something special with their adaptation of a symbiotic storyline, while others have been met with mixed reactions from fans. So let's go over all the highlights and see what they really mean for the movie:
- Peter will be nearly "brutally killed" and the symbiote will save his life
- Madelyn Cline will join the cast in an undisclosed role believed to be that of Black Cat or Gwen Stacy.
- Star-Lord will make an appearance in the movie.
- Production won't begin until August 2025, and the release will be pushed back to December 2026.
Perhaps the most discouraging report would be the one indicating Spider-Man 4 will be delayed. After all, the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure was slated to be released right after Avengers: Doomsday, so there's a slight chance the script could be impacted by the timing as well. And let's face it, nobody likes the idea of a five-year gap between No Way Home and its follow-up — it's way too much time. On the bright side, all other reports are much more positive, and the idea of Spidey nearly bitting the dust only to be saved by the symbiote seems more likely than ever all thanks to Sony's press release.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 receives new updates
Unfortunately, Insomniac Games announced no DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will ever be released. However, that didn't mean they would stop working on their latest title altogether as evidenced by some recent updates. First, the game was upgraded to perform better on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Fidelity-like graphics are now possible at 60fps, ray tracing is now two to three times as fast and reflects objects that are even further, and AI upscaling allows for greater resolution. Unfortunately, none of these changes are easily visible in a YouTube video, but people who got their hands on Sony's latest console seem to be impressed by what Insomniac accomplished.
Besides, two new suits were added for free for all players regardless of their base console. The Fly N' Fresh suit pack gives Peter and Miles one new costume each, and they seem tailor-made for a little workout. It's worth noting they are original designs and not other well-known costumes that fans have been craving for a long time now. However, chances are Insomniac wants to save the big guns for upcoming titles in their Spider-Man saga, so it's just a matter of waiting a little bit longer.
Marvel won't allow Peter to get married
There was a time in comic book pages when Peter Parker was to Mary Jane. It seemed like they were going to live happily ever after until the events of One More Day undid all of that. Fortunately, the pair managed to get back together and it looked like they were going to live happily ever after until the events of Zeb Well's The Amazing Spider-Man undid all that once again. The two just can't seem to catch a break, and readers are confused as to why. After all, fans unanimously want to see them have a lasting marriage (just like in Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man). Well, after a lot of doubts, we finally have an answer.
Veteran Marvel editor Tom Brevoort revealed at Baltimore Comic-Con that Marvel as an institution won't allow Peter to get married. It's a rule creators have to follow, and Tom compared it with Matt Murdock's blindness by saying it's something you simply have to accept. Chances are that the decision was made to allow for a greater number of potential storylines, like Peter dating Black Cat once again. However, we all know that really isn't the way to go. Peter as a character should be able to grow and enter a new phase in his life — one which adults could relate to. After all, that's why we have younger versions of the Spider-Man character such as Miles Morales or Ghost Spider. They are the ones who shouldn't have their lives figured out. But Peter? Come on, just let him be happy already.
All three Spider-Men could fight each other in Avengers: Secret Wars
The last (and only) time we witnessed Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland's Peter Parkers come together on the big screen, they were on pretty good terms. However, all of that could change in Avengers: Secret Wars if a new report is anything to go by. There's a chance audiences will witness all three live-action versions of the wall-crawler fight in Marvel's upcoming crossover. What could provoke such a dreadful event, I hear you ask? Well, that's the thing; it wasn't specified.
One prevailing theory suggests that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will be corrupted by the effects of the symbiote, so Andrew and Tobey will attempt to help get rid of it in a heartbreaking battle. However, there's always the possibility they are pitted against each other in Battleword and they are forced to fight for the survival of their respective universes. Only time will tell how everything will unfold, but as long as they team up once again before credits roll, it wouldn't hurt to learn who's the strongest of them all. If the rumor turns out to be true, then one thing's for certain: Avengers: Secret Wars can't come quickly enough.
