Peter Parker will reportedly nearly die in Spider-Man 4, but there's a twist
Many official reveals regarding the untitled Spider-Man 4 have made their way online over the past few weeks. From the confirmation that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the movie, all the way to unveiling the release date will be on Jul. 24, 2026. However, plot details remain tightly under wraps, as the only tease we've had was Tom Holland stating that the script is "excellent". Fortunately, multiple reports paint a clearer picture of what can we expect once the film is released. Tom Hardy's Venom and Knull will reportedly make an appearance, and Peter Parker could finally bond with the symbiote. However, nothing could've prepared us for a new rumor circulating around that claims a shocking demise might (almost) take place.
Peter Parker will reportedly be saved by the symbiote in Spider-Man 4
As reported by established insider HolyField News, Peter Parker will be almost brutally killed in Spider-Man 4. However, we all know it's still way too early to say goodbye to the wall-crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — so instead of perishing, Peter will be saved by bonding with the Venom symbiote. It sounds like a similar scenario to the one players experienced in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, were Kraven stabbed Peter and he was brought to life by the black suit. Furthermore, this would also explain how Knull could be involved in the movie.
During the event of Venom: The Last Dance, it is explained that The King in Black needs a Codex to be freed from his imprisonment. However, the key behind his escape can only be created when a symbiote revives someone by bonding with it. That's why Knull's forces heavily hunted Venom in his latest stand-alone movie. However, since Eddie isn't the Lethal Protector anymore, a new victim will be needed to take his place and it appears Peter could be the one to fill that role. After all, it's important to remember Eddie left a piece of the symbiote behind in the MCU during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, so the chances of it bonding with the wall-crawler are higher than ever.
Marvel has seemingly been toying with the idea of symbiotes entering the MCU for quite some time now. Unused concept art for Spider-Man: No Way Home reveals a design that pictures Tom Holland's Peter wearing the iconic black suit. Furthermore, there were rumors that Tobey Maguirer's version of the wall-crawler would've been fatally injured in the movie due to the Goblin's glider, and it wasn't until he bonded with the Venom symbiote that he would've been saved. Now, it seems pieces are falling into place for a similar storyline to happen in Spider-Man 4.
The good thing is we've seen such a concept work in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Besides, the idea of Peter bonding with a parasitic alien at such a low point in his life would be extremely compelling. After all, he lost Aunt May, the love of his life, his best friend and basically everyone else given that his identity has been erased from existence. He's all alone, maybe even feeling powerless, so a suit that could restore some of that confidence back could lead to disastrous results (in a good way). Besides, the first time Spidey got in contact with the symbiote in comic book pages was in Battleworld during the events of Secret Wars, and it's been rumored every movie after Avengers: Doomsday and before Avengers: Secret Wars will also take place on Battleworld.
Granted, this is not the street-level story fans have been pleading for quite some time now. But it might be our last chance to watch a story where the multiverse is involved in some capacity before the Multiverse Saga in the MCU comes to an end. Besides, it's been reported that Spider-Man 5 will bring the character back to basics and make him the protagonist of a grounded movie where Daredevil and Kingpin will have huge roles to play. With that in mind, I'm all in for one last huge and wacky multiversal adventure where the Venom symbiote could potentially save Peter's life.
Spider-Man 4 will be released on Jul. 24, 2026.
