Daredevil: Born Again will reportedly set up the events of Spider-Man 5
All eyes are set on Spider-Man 4 to surpass its predecessor and surprise us with something we haven't seen before on the big screen. The only problem is that we officially know very little about the project itself - let alone what type of story it will tell. Rumors currently claim it will be a multiversal crossover with Tom Hardy's Venom, but it wasn't always that way. There was a time when it was reported that the highly anticipated movie would be a street-level story in which Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk would play significant roles. It was a letdown to learn those plans were "scrapped", but lo and behold, perhaps they just need a bit more time until they come to fruition.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a big machine whose gears don't stop moving. So, even if audiences don't know much about Tom Holland's next stand-alone adventure, Kevin Feige and company are already two steps ahead in thinking about what could happen in Spider-Man 5. Now, thanks to a new report, we know what could be in store for the wall-crawler, and let me tell you; it sounds amazing.
Daredevil: Born Again could set up Devil's Reign for Spider-Man 5
According to reputable insider Alex Perez, Marvel wants to go "back to basics" with the wall-crawler after the events of Spider-Man 4, set the multiverse aside, and create an adaptation of Devil's Reign. According to the same source, we've been watching the setup of that story for quite some time now. It started with Kingpin's return in Hawkeye and was followed up with the villain's arc in Echo. Now that story will continue in the events of Daredevil: Born Again and eventually bleed into Spider-Man 5.
Devil's Reign is a comic book series where the Kingpin of crime takes advantage of his power as the Mayor of New York to outlaw all superheroes. As if that wasn't enough, he tasks the Thunderbolts to hunt every vigilante in the city, putting him in direct opposition with Luke Cage, Iron Man, Captain America, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and of course, the wall-crawler (though it was Ben Reily and Miles Morales' versions of the hero, not Peter Parker). It's a beloved comic book series that has all the potential to steal the spotlight on the big screen too, and it seems we're already witnessing its origins.
It's worth remembering Wilson Fisk considered running for Major of New York during the post-credits scene of Echo. Furthermore, it's reported that he'll win the elections, and mention Spider-Man during his acceptance speech. However, it could even go beyond that. The report also mentions Marvel wants Tom Holland to have a cameo in Daredevil: Born Again, though it's unclear at this moment if that will come to be (but fingers crossed that winds up being the case!).
Daredevil and Spider-Man are close friends on superhero pages, so fans have been eagerly awaiting to see them team up on the big screen as well. Granted, they briefly crossed paths in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but none of them had their superhero costume on. Chances are that won't happen until the events of Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Even then, their relationship wouldn't be the center of relationship in a movie so crowded and with many multiversal storylines. So it seems we'll have to wait until the release of Spider-Man 5 to properly see them steal the spotlight together.
