Spider-Man 4 has been making headlines online for many different reasons. First, we learned that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is in early talks to helm Spidey's next movie. Furthermore, we've also heard reports that yet another multiversal adventure could be on the table for the wall-crawler. Finally, it's been heavily rumored that Sydney Sweeney will be back to play the role of Black Cat as well. But if all of that wasn't enough, we now have more potential news to break down.
With the release of the latest trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, audiences learned that the god of symbiotes, Knull, is making his long-awaited debut. While that idea alone is more than exciting, we also learned he could return in future projects including the likes of Spider-Man 4. That has huge implications, such as fans finally watching one highly-awaited team-up on the big screen. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, these iconic frenemies could be meeting soon enough.
Spider-Man 4 will reportedly feature a Spider-Man and Venom team up
According to insider Alex Perez, via The Cosmic Circus, Spider-Man 4 might feature Tom Holland's Peter Parker and Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock teaming up to fight against Knull. The implication seems to be that the two iconic characters could face off at the beginning of the movie, only to be forced to work as a team later on (as it has been in multiple comic book storylines).
Interestingly enough, the report mentions Spider-Man 4 was originally envisioned as a "grounded" film featuring the wall-crawler and Daredevil taking on the Kingpin. Other street-level villains such as The Scorpion, Mister Negative, and Spencer Smythe were all in contention to have an antagonistic role as well. However, while said story hasn't been scrapped yet and may still come to fruition in the future, it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer for it.
Fans have been asking to see Peter Parker join forces with Matt Murdock and fight Venom for quite some time now. While the prioritization of any story above the other is sure to upset some people, it's nice to hear that the two iconic archnemesis will finally cross paths. The doors could be open for the Lethal Protector to finally sport his signature white spider symbol, while Peter Parker could wear the iconic black suit on the big screen for the first time in more than fifteen years.
Reshoots for Venom: The Last Dance took place in New York - which is a very "curious" choice of location given that Eddie Brock lives in San Francisco, and he was last spotted in Mexico. The question has to be asked: where does the Big Apple fall in the story? Why would Venom go there if it isn't for a very specific purpose? Well, it's important to remember the first trailer for the upcoming Sony movie featured a scene that seems to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Furthermore, Alex Perez also claims that by the end of Venom: The Last Dance, Eddie Brock will cross into the MCU.
All the pieces are falling into place for a symbiotic storyline to take over Spider-Man 4. Besides, with a rumored release date of July 2026, it won't be long before we finally get some official news about it from Sony and Marvel.
