It may be hard to believe, but this December will mark three years since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While there was a time when the highly-anticipated project felt like a long way off, the epic multiversal crossover has now come and gone. So all eyes are set on the next Spider-Man movie to blow the roof off once again and surpass what its predecessor was able to achieve (if that's even possible).
While we're still waiting for an official reveal for Spider-Man 4 (which may still come this August according to a recent report), the movie's existence is all but confirmed. Kevin Feige has talked about it multiple times in interviews, it has been revealed that Jon Watts won't be sitting on the director's chair this time around, and rumors about potential villains have made their way online. Now it seems a new antagonist could be added to Spider-Man's live-action rogue's gallery as well, and it's a good one.
Sydney Sweeney has been reportedly offered the role of Black Cat
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Sydney Sweeney has reportedly been offered the role of Black Cat for Spider-Man 4. This wouldn't be the first time Sydney has appeared in a Spider-Man-related project, as earlier this year she played the role of Julia Cornwall in the ill-fated Madame Web.
While Sony's latest go at a Spider-Man-related movie was a turbulent experience for many (including moviegoers), Sydney Sweeney wasn't unfazed by the negative reception. On the contrary, she stated that experience allowed her to build a strategic relationship with Sony. So the news of a potential comeback in Spider-Man 4 shouldn't come in as much as a surprise. Besides, she's been a popular fan casting ever since rumors of Felicia Hardy's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe started making their way online. Let's face it, she'd be perfect for the role.
Felicia Hardy is one of the most popular Spider-Man characters who have yet to make a big screen appearance on any of the three live-action franchises. However, at some point, Sony planned a spinoff to The Amazing Spider-Man saga titled Silver & Black. The now-defunct project would've featured Felicity Jones in the role of Black Cat sharing the screen with Silver Sable. The project was ultimately scrapped when Andrew Garfield's saga was rebooted, but it was probably for the best.
Movies that take place in Sony's Spider-Man Universe aren't part of the MCU. So beloved characters such as Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web haven't been able to interact with Tom Holland's Spider-Man yet. If Black Cat had starred in her own stand-alone movie, then she would've been part of that same fate. Fortunately, catastrophe was avoided and now Spider-Man 4 could shape up to be even more exciting than what we originally anticipated with Black Cat's presence.
