It has been many months of wild rumors and speculations regarding Spider-Man 4. But even then, very few official announcements have been made about the wall-crawler's next adventure, which is surprising considering the movie is reported to be released in less than two years from now. The last thing we learned in an official capacity was that Jon Watts would not return for the fourth installment in the saga, while also turning down the offer to helm the upcoming movie Fantastic Four: First Steps.

For a long time, rumors ran rampant about who would be taking his place. Sam Raimi was one of the most popular names that would show up since he already had all the necessary experience for the role by helming Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy. However, other filmmakers were also rumored to take the spot, including the likes of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Fortunately, it seems the days of speculation are over, as one superhero veteran could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to bring Spider-Man 4 to life.

Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to direct Spider-Man 4

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the wall-crawler's next stand-alone adventure may have found its director in Destin Daniel Cretton. The American filmmaker is better known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings; one of the most acclaimed MCU movies after Avengers: Endgame. His work in bringing the B-lister hero to life and turning him into one of Marvel's main characters moving forward is indicative that the wall-crawler could be in a safe pair of hands.

One of the most acclaimed aspects of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was its amazing action sequences. Destin Daniel Cretton and company worked tirelessly to create beautifully choreographed fights for the big screen, rivaling those found in heavy hitters such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what he can do with a character as popular as Spider-Man. Audiences could be in to see more mind-blowing and beautifully choreographed swinging sequences, as well as more jaw-dropping set pieces.

It's also reported that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will be back to write the script for Spider-Man 4. The duo is well-known for their previous work the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy, acting as the writers for Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. Fortunately, that means they can continue with their original vision for Peter Parker's arc after the whole world forgot about his identity and the teenager was forced to move alone to a new place. Audiences have been eager to see a movie that takes the character back to his roots as a self-made hero who faces problems on his own. Hopefully, that idea could be further explored in Spider-Man 4.

Finally, it's also been claimed that the movie is now in full swing with shooting beginning as early as the first months of next year. Unfortunately, Deadline revealed Tom Holland and Zendaya aren't confirmed to return for the newest chapter in the franchise just yet. However, discussions with them will likely come soon ahead of the movie's production.
