New Venom: The Last Dance trailer is packed with shocking surprises
On this date six years ago, we were a couple of weeks away from the release of the first Venom movie. Back then, many considered the project a simple cash grab, and nobody expected it would make much waves. However, it spawned a complete big-screen trilogy while earning fans love along the way. Even if both entries in the franchise have been met with underwhelming critical response, fans have consistently shown up to theaters to be entertained by the unique relationship between Eddie Brock and the symbiote. What can we say? The "buddy cop" style of the movies and its action set pieces have been more than enough to keep us engaged.
Now, everything is coming to an end.
Next month will see the release of Venom: The Last Dance, which is set to bring a definite conclusion to the Lethal Protector saga. In anticipation of the big event, Sony has released a new trailer to give us a better idea of what to expect. Fortunately, many of the doubts we had - such as who the main antagonist will be - were finally answered. So let's break down all the big reveals, shall we?
Knull is here
For a lot of time, fans wondered who Venom would face in the last chapter of his story. We thought the big reveal leaked a few days ago thanks to a teaser trailer that was quickly taken down. However, not only no name was given to the evil symbiote (leaving us speculating for days about its true identity) but we also couldn't be far away from the truth. Thanks to latest the trailer, it has finally been confirmed Eddie Brock will be battling against none other than the creator of symbiotes; Knull. Better yet; we had the chance to see a glimpse of the terrifying antagonist himself.
It's also revealed that the symbiotes that are hunting Eddie didn't arrive on Earth by accident. Instead, they are running away from Knull. Furthermore, we got to see what appears to be the symbiote hivemind at the 0:50 second mark; further establishing the idea that the alien creatures are connected with one another. That explains why Doctor Strange's spell transported Venom to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since Topher Grace's Eddie Brock knew about the superhero identity of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, then that knowledge was shared with Tom Hardy's version of the character through the hivemind and across the multiverse. This was a prevailing fan theory for many years, and it seems we were right all along.
Going back to the big bad; It's no wonder military agencies are hunting Venom as well. The Lethal Protector has something that Knull needs and, as long as the former lives, the latter will keep trying to attack Earth. Now, the only question remaining is: What could be the symbiote's creator master plan? Why hunt Eddie Brock, out of all people? Well, it won't be long before we finally figure it out!
Venom Piranha enters the scene
It's worth pointing out that, at the 1:49 mark in the trailer, we get a glimpse of Venom bonding with what appears to be a Piranha. It's a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, but one that clearly establishes audiences will see all sorts of animals taken over by the symbiote. After all, the first trailer made waves by featuring a (very cool looking) Venom horse, and concept art for the movie also revealed we can expect to see a Venom frog as well. Could there be more weird creatures awaiting audiences once the movie releases? Fingers crossed that's the case!
To close things out, we also see Venom riding a motorcycle like the good old times - escaping from a Xenophage and leaving a trail of destruction behind. Are you excited about Venom: The Last Dance?
