Spider-Man 4 villain reportedly revealed (and it's a big one)

Spider-Man 4 could shape up a very ambitious, chaotic, and dark movie courtesy of this new antagonist.

After the incredible success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is aiming for the next entry in the franchise to blow the roof off once again. To accomplish that, they're in talks with Marvel veteran Destin Daniel Cretton, better known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, to helm the webhead's next live-action adaptation. However, that's just one part of the puzzle.

Another important aspect is the story, which has shifted from a grounded adventure to a multiversal crossover according to recent rumors. And now that it's all but confirmed the wall-crawler will deal with threats from different realities for the second time in a row, the only question remaining is: Who'll get to steal the spotlight and be the main villain? Well, we may finally have an answer if a new report is anything to go by, and it's a big one.

Knull could be the villain of Spider-Man 4

As reported by insider Marvel Leaks via X (formerly Twitter), Spider-Man 4 will have more than one single antagonist. However, the role of the main villain will be for none other than Knull, the god of symbiotes. This falls in line with other rumors that indicate the King in Black will be back after his debut in Venom: The Last Dance, and that Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock would crossover to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. By the looks of it, Tom Holland's next stand-alone adventure will feature the long-awaited fight between Venom and Spider-Man before they eventually team up to defeat a greater evil.

The moment it was revealed that Knull would make his big screen, many fans wondered if a single movie (with a reported runtime of just 1 hour and 50 minutes) would be enough to cover his origins and his inevitable arrival on Earth. Fortunately, it seems Sony wants to merely introduce his character and build him up for future projects - which would undoubtedly prove to be the right move. After all, the Lord of the Void is a character with such a rich mythos behind it that he's deserving of his live-action franchise.

Spider-Man 4 is rumored to start filming in early 2025. However, an official reveal has yet to come. Maybe the true reason behind the lack of official news is Sony is waiting for Venom: The Last Dance to be released and hint towards the future of Eddie Brock before finally confirming he'll cross paths with Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

The idea of watching Knull in the MCU is more than exciting, to say the least. While citizens of Earth 616 aren't strangers to alien invasions, they've never dealt with something quite as terrifying as symbiotes before. With that in mind, could there be a possibility for Earth's Mightiest Heroes to show up in an attempt to fight against the new invasion? Furthermore, it would be the perfect chance to see the wall-crawler wear his iconic black suit on the big screen for the first time in more than 17 years. Now that the whole world has forgotten who Peter Parker is and Aunt May is dead, the superpowered teenager is arguably at the lowest point in his life, which would put him in the perfect position to be overtaken by a twisted alien.

On the flip side, it can be disheartening to learn Spider-Man 4 won't likely be a street-level adventure with Wilson Fisk as the main villain and Daredevil as a secondary character. However, actor Vincent D'Onofrio recently hinted that Daredevil: Born Again could adapt the Devil's Reign storyline, an arc in which the Kingpin of crime took advantage of his position as the Mayor of New York to hunt the superheroes protecting the city including Spider-Man himself. Maybe there are plans in store for the Disney+ series to be the "grounded" project in which Peter and Matt Murdock join forces, while Spider-Man 4 can act as the big multiversal crossover with a big invasion on the line.
