Tom Holland's future as Spider-Man is uncertain for the first time in a very long time. We know the friendly neighborhood hero will star in his fourth stand-alone movie, but beyond that very little has been officially revealed. There are rumors he'll be a key player in Avengers: Doomsday (and it would be a true shocker if that weren't the case). However, Sony hasn't confirmed anything yet, leaving the future of the wall-crawler up for speculation at the moment. And to make things more interesting, recent comments by a veteran Marvel star could indicate we could see him on a highly-anticipated Disney+ series.

Vincent D’Onofrio suggests Daredevil Born Again could adapt Devil’s Reign

During a panel at Dragon Con, Vincent D'Onofrio was asked by Popverse if he'd be up to reprise his role as the Kingpin of crime in a live-action adaptation of Devil's Reign. While the American actor didn't answer with a clear "yes" or "no", he did suggest such a moment could happen sooner than expected in Daredevil: Born Again.

"That’s a very interesting question. I cannot answer that because we have a new season coming out of Daredevil. I’m sure you get it. Otherwise, I would just flap my lips for the next thirty minutes and it would be so much fun, but that’s not happening."

Devil's Reign is a popular comic book storyline where Wilson Fisk takes advantage of his position as the Mayor of New York to approve the "powers act"; a regulation that outlaws superhero vigilantism. He later makes use of the Thunderbolts to hunt and arrest many iconic Marvel characters such as Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Moon Knight, and, of course, Spider-Man.

It isn't a secret the ending of Echo set up Wilson Fisk to be the future Mayor of New York City. Furthermore, leaked pictures from the set of Daredevil: Born Again reveal the creation of an "anti-vigilante task force". With that in mind, all the pieces are in place for a loose adaptation of Devil's Reign, and the only question remaining would be: what Marvel heroes could be hunted by the Kingpin aside from Daredevil and Punisher?

Iron Man and Captain America are already out of the picture (unfortunately). Furthermore, heroes such as Luke Cage and Jessica Jones aren't part of the MCU yet, and a new ensemble of Fantastic Four will be introduced to audiences after the release of Daredevil's series. But even if many options aren't available right out of the gate, one operational hero living in New York who's perfect for this storyline is Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

Sure, the comic book arc didn't feature Peter himself. However, two different Spider-Men took his place in the form of Miles Morales and Ben Reilly. Furthermore, multiple villains of the wall-crawler such as Doctor Octopus, Rhino, and Shocker were also featured. Otto Octavius even had a key role to play in the story, so it would be weird for a live-action adaptation of Devil's Reign to completely ignore any Spider-Man characters.

There was a time when multiple rumors indicated Spider-Man 4 was going to be a street-level adventure pitting the wall-crawler and Daredevil against the Kingpin. However, it seems there was a shift in direction, and now the movie could be a multiversal crossover (potentially with Tom Hardy's Venom). But perhaps the original plan will still take place, just in Daredevil: Born Again.

It would be the perfect way to please both fans who dreamed of seeing a confrontation between Tom Holland's Peter Parker and the Lethal Protector and those who wanted a team-up between the two red-costumed heroes. Maybe we won't get to see those plans in fruition on the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, but the second could be the way to go.
