August may have not seen the release of a new Spider-Man project on the big or small screen, but it was still a great month for fans of the character. Multiple news and rumors about the friendly neighborhood hero came our way non-stop. There were so many stories, in fact, that it could've been a little difficult to keep track of all of them. As a result, we've compiled every must-know headline of the month in one single place in an attempt to make things a little bit easier. So without further ado, here's everything you need to know:
We learned more about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
San Diego Comic-Con is the place to learn all the latest breaking news about Marvel projects. Fortunately, this time wasn't the exception, as a new Agatha All Along trailer was revealed, live-audience members got a glimpse at Daredevil: Born Again, and Robert Downey Jr's return to the MCU was confirmed (among many other things). Fortunately, the event also brought amazing news for Spider-Man fans, especially in the series department.
We finally learned more about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, a highly anticipated animated series coming to Disney+. The biggest tidbit is that Doctor Strange will be responsible for creating Spider-Man, given that the radioactive spider that bites Peter comes from one of the sorcerer's iconic portals. Furthermore, popular characters such as Venom, Iron Man, Daredevil, Beetle, Chameleon, and more will make an appearance in the series. Finally, Norman Osborn will act as Peter's mentor, but he'll use "questionable" methods when doing so. You can read a full breakdown of all the little details here.
While a trailer of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was showcased at SDCC, it has yet to make its way online. But when we get our first look at the series, we'll make sure to cover it here on Whatever A Spider Can along with a full Easter Egg breakdown. So be sure to return when that day finally comes!
Kraven the Hunter gets a new violent trailer
2024 still has to see the release of two live-action Spider-Man-related projects, one of which is Kraven the Hunter on December 13, 2024. The movie is set to expand on Sony's Spider-Man Universe by including popular villains such as Rhino, Chameleon, and - of course - the world's greatest hunter himself. The movie's latest trailer gives us a glimpse into many violent and R-rated scenes and Rhino's (almost) comic-book-accurate design. Better yet; it seems like Kraven could finally break the losing streak of Sony Spider-Man projects that include Morbius and Madame Web.
To wrap things off, a new epic poster for Kraven The Hunter was also released, which you can see here.
Spider-Man 4 will reportedly be a multiverse movie after all
Many rumors have hit the web (pun intended) regarding the MCU's Spider-Man 4. Some claim it will be a grounded movie with many different villains while others say it will feature different realities just like its predecessor. However, Daniel Richtman, one of the most credible sources when it comes to scoops, has weighed in on the matter to clarify that it will be a multiversal movie after all.
The main reason behind this is that the movie will reportedly be released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, meaning it could take place on Battleworld. As a refresher, Battleworld is a place made up of all Marvel universes at once, meaning characters from other superhero franchises will likely show up (such as Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire). While the prospect of a spider reunion is exciting, Spider-Man 4 shouldn't strive to tell a multiversal story, and you can read why here.
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will show up... everywhere?
Speaking of rumors, August saw multiple reports that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will show up... well, basically everywhere. From Spider-Man 4 to Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, there's no big "crossover" project where they won't reportedly make an appearance. On a similar note, it has also been said that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will have a role in Venom: The Last Dance. While it's important to take all rumors with a grain of salt, it would be incredible if at least two of these three reports turned out to be true.
If you want to read a full breakdown of Tobey's supposed return, you can read it here here. Besides, we also covered Andrew's rumored comeback here.
Spidey joins many video games
SDCC wasn't the only big event that took place in August. Gamescon was also broadcast revealing more about Marvel Rivals; a PVP Shooter featuring many Marvel characters such as Spider-Man. A new trailer for the highly-anticipated game was released (which you can watch above) and it was also confirmed that all characters will be free to play. Marvel Rivals is set to release on December 6 on all major platforms.
As if it wasn't enough, it was also recently confirmed that Fall Guys will feature new Spider-Man skins. Yes, the reveal might have come in early September instead of August, but since we're on the topic of video games why not take the chance to break the news down? Finally, the Iron Spider suit was also introduced to Fortnite (however, it seems that, at the time of writing this, the iconic costume has left the Item Store).
Ultimate Black Cat is here
One of the best current Spidey runs in comic books is Ultimate Spider-Man. The latest take on the superhero sees him earn his powers when he's already married to M.J. and a father of two (you know, many years later after it was supposed to happen). The absence of the wall-crawler for years had many side effects such as Uncle Ben being alive and J. Jonah James not being... a completely embittered man. If you haven't read it, we highly recommend it (and be on the lookout for our upcoming review of the series).
The reveal of the Ultimate version of Black Cat (which you can see here) recently broke the internet. Given that this is an alternate universe, the design of many iconic characters was re-imagined - such as the Green Goblin having a tech suit. Fortunately, Black Cat also received the same treatment and we can't wait to see how different she acts from her Earth-616 counterpart. Be on the lookout for Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #11 when it hits shelves this November!
New Spider-Man rides are coming to Disney
Did you feel like WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure in Disney California Adventure was a little bit of a letdown? Well, trust me, you're not alone. However, it seems Disney will have two more chances at creating a breathtaking ride featuring the web-slinging hero. The first of them is a Spidey coaster coming to Shanghai Disneyland. Unfortunately, an opening date or window hasn't been revealed so we have no clue when to expect it. However, not everything's bad as a new concept art of the roller coaster was showcased (which you can see above)
Besides, a new Tower-of-Terror look-alike ride featuring Spider-Man will come to Hong Kong Disneyland. It's set to take advantage of the wider MCU to feature a few Avengers Easter Eggs and perhaps the appearance of Iron Man himself. You can see the concept art for this coaster here.
Many new Funkos are coming our way
Last, but not least, many new Spider-Man Funko figurines will be coming our way over the next few months. While the image above gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect, that's just the tip of the iceberg. New Carnageized Funko Pops, Mystery Minis, and classic Peter Parker designs were all revealed during August. As if that wasn't enough, a Miles Morales Funko Pop! Comic Cover! was also unveiled, along with a new Superior Spider-Man figurine. It seems like we'll have to make a little more space in our collection soon.
And that's it, those are all the biggest Spider-Man news and rumors of August. Which one of them was your favorite? Let us know on our social media pages! And stick around Whatever A Spider Can for everything Spider-Man related.
