Avengers: Secret Wars will feature the Spider-Man comeback we need, reports say
Is it too soon to call it a comeback? After the premiere of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe went on a bit of a losing streak. Movie after movie, fans worried more and more that the glory days were over, and many even wondered if there was a need to continue the Marvel story after Iron Man's sacrifice. However, fast-forward to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, and things are looking better than ever. The Multiverse saga is in full swing, and Marvel characters we thought we'd never see again are making a comeback.
All eyes are on Avengers: Secret Wars to elevate the franchise to whole new heights. If big heroes such as X-23, Gambit, Blade, and Elektra surprised us in Deadpool & Wolverine, then what could audiences expect from the biggest MCU crossover to date? Well, according to a new report, chances are this beloved Spider-Man variant could show up and make us jump out of our seats in excitement.
Andrew Garfield reported to return in Avengers: Secret Wars
Andrew Garfield was the star of the most divisive and short-lived Spider-Man franchise on the big screen to date. Some felt his version of Peter Parker was too "cool" and rebellious to stand tall next to Tobey Maguire's portrayal of the character. However, his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home was met with overwhelming excitement. Fans even campaigned for him to get a third chapter in his stand-alone saga. We all want to see more of him, and it appears that will be the case.
According to scooper Marvel News on X (formerly Twitter), Andrew Garfield has agreed to return as the wall-crawler in Avengers: Secret Wars. It shouldn't come as a surprise since his return was welcomed by fans worldwide and the MCU is all about multiversal appearances now. That means there's serious potential for him to cross paths with the likes of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine (given that the latter also returns). While no information has been revealed about Andrew's potential role, or how much of a presence he'll have in the movie, audiences should sure be excited to see his comeback.
Tobey Maguire could be joining the roster as well
Marvel News also reported that Tobey Maguire has agreed to make a return in Avengers: Secret Wars. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise after the incredible success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Watching the iconic trio of web-slingers on the big screen felt like a dream come true, so the idea of re-doing it all over again should be a no-brainer for Marvel.
A few reports also claim there's a chance this crossover will happen even sooner in Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4. But everything seems to indicate Spidey's next solo adventure won't be a multiversal story and, instead, it will feature multiple street-level villains for Peter to face. So all eyes are on Avengers: Secret Wars for the long-awaited arachnid reunion to finally come to be.
