Spider-Man officially has a release date and a director attached
After a long period of silence and speculation, we're finally starting to learn more details about the highly-anticipated Spider-Man 4. Given how Peter Parker's previous adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended, fans were eager to see him as a stand-alone hero who wouldn't need a mentor to save the day. We were all excited to see where the wall-crawler's story would take us next (and if he'd keep using that same awesome suit from the end of the movie or not), but almost three years have gone by and not a lot was officially known... until now.
Spider-Man 4 will be released on July 24, 2026
As revealed by Variety, the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4 will be released on July 24, 2026. That puts the movie right in between Avengers: Doomsday on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Previous rumors suggested that any MCU project released during that period would take place in Battleworld; an amalgamation of the multiverse as a whole ruled by Doctor Doom. That means every hero across different realities would live in the same place, which could open the door for the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parkers.
Furthermore, it has been officially confirmed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the wall-crawler's fourth stand-alone adventure. Back in September, it was revealed he was in early talks to join the movie, and fan response was more than positive. After all, Shang-Chi had beautifully choreographed hand-to-hand combat sequences and heroes making creative use of their environments to get the upper hand in battle. Hopefully, Destin Daniel can use the same style to create jaw-dropping swinging scenes, which have been infamously absent in the MCU.
Recently, Tom Holland confirmed that Spider-Man 4 shooting will begin in the summer of 2025. Hopefully, that means we aren't too far away from getting casting news and a few set photos that give us a better idea of what the movie will be about, as many details are currently unknown. Some reports claim it will be a street-level adventure with many villains such as Scorpion, Mr. Negative, and the Kingpin of crime. Others say it will feature the comeback of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, and it has been heavily speculated that Knull will act as the main antagonist.
Which of these stories will wind up being true? It's just a matter of time before we finally figure it out. But one thing's for certain: Tom Holland is doing everything in his power to ensure the movie has a narrative that makes fans happy. During the Rich Roll Podcast, the English actor revealed there were situations where he had to "put his foot down" in favor of the friendly neighborhood hero. As a result, he has stated the latest version of the script is "excellent", even if it still needs a little bit of work to be done. So we can rest assured that whatever comes next will put a big smile on our faces.
