Tom Holland announces Spider-Man 4 and says it's different from anything done before
Spider-Man 4 was in a bit of a strange place for quite some time. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had previously said Jon Watts wouldn't be behind the director's seat for the wall-crawler's next adventure, Tom Holland read a draft of the script and said it's "excellent" even if it still needs a little bit of work, and it has been confirmed Destin Delson has "has signed on" to helm the highly-anticipated movie. And yet, through all of that, there was never an official announcement for Spider-Man 4.
The existence of the project felt like a no-brainer, especially after the huge success of its predecessor Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, days went by and an official reveal never came... until now. Tom Holland took on the stage of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and said Spider-Man 4 is happening. Furthermore, he added shooting starts next summer, and everything's good to go.
But what will the mysterious Spider-Man 4 will be about? Multiple rumors seem to all have a different take on the movie; from a street-level adventure featuring Daredevil to a multiversal crossover with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, all the way to a symbiotic invasion with Knull front and center. So what did Peter Parker himself have to say about the concept behind the upcoming project?
Tom Holland claims the idea for Spider-Man 4 is "crazy"
While speaking on Good Morning America, Tom Holland gave us a little Spider-Man 4 tease saying it's something "completely different" from anything done before:
"All I can tell you is that it’s happening. We are super close to having a creative that I think is really worthy of the fans (...) Now we feel confident that the idea is strong enough that we can finally say that this is going ahead (...) The idea is crazy, it’s a little different to anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it."
- Tom Holland
Of course, this could mean a great number of things. From a team-up with The Man Without Fear, to Peter getting the black suit and showing a meaner side to him. Fortunately, we can rest assured Tom is fighting to create a movie worthy of the iconic character. He has gone on record saying he wants to do many more Spider-Man movies, but not just for the sake of it. Instead, he wants to do what's best for the fans, even going as far as "putting his foot down" in certain situations in the best interest of the friendly neighborhood hero.
Given that production for Spider-Man 4 will start soon, it's just a matter of time before we finally start getting casting news and perhaps even a few set photos. Rumors have it the movie is aiming to have a release date of July 2026, which would be just in time to tie into big crossover movies such as Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Infinity War; two other projects in which the web-slinger is reported to show up. Meanwhile, we have Venom: The Last Dance, Kraven the Hunter, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to look up to - three Spider-Man-related projects that can make the waiting feel a little bit shorter.
