Is it finally time for Kraven the Hunter, a movie set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, to feature the wall-crawler himself? This is what reports have to say.

Five movies into Sony's Spider-Man Universe, and we have yet to see any of its different franchises cross paths with each other. Morbius and Madame Web's futures on the big screen are up in the air, especially since their films failed to gather critical acclaim or become a smashing box office success. Venom, on the other hand, is seemingly out of the picture (though we all know he will instead jump universes and share the screen with Tom Holland's Spider-Man). So that leaves Kraven the Hunter as the only possible SSU movie where we could see some sort of crazy crossover. And of course, the biggest question in everyone's minds is: Will we see Spidey make a surprise appearance in it? Well, we might finally have an answer, but it's not one that we'd like.

Spider-Man will reportedly not appear or be mentioned in Kraven the Hunter

According to established insider Cryptic HD QUALITY, Spider-Man won't even be mentioned in Kraven the Hunter. Furthermore, it's also reported the movie won't have any post-credits scenes either — which is a surprising break from tradition for any Marvel project. It's worth pointing out that this statement comes from the same source that correctly revealed the runtime of Venom: The Last Dance. So even if all rumors must be taken with a grain of salt, perhaps there's a bit more credibility to this one.

If Kraven the Hunter does not feature a mind-blowing cameo, it will align with what director J. C. Chandor mentioned during a previous interview. The goal is to create a good isolated movie now and leave potential crossovers for the future. Besides, another objective is to wash away any bad taste that audiences may have from other SSU movies, which could also explain why other "spider heroes" won't be mentioned, such as some of the characters introduced in Madame Web. All things considered, it looks like we might be in for a true isolated origin story set in the Marvel Universe (which it feels like we haven't gotten in a while).

Of course, other big Spider-Man characters such as Rhino and Chameleon are confirmed to appear in the movie. Nonetheless, the latter is Kraven's half-brother, which means he needed to have a role to play in Kraven's story. Furthermore, Aleksei Sytsevic will be the main antagonist as opposed to a simple cameo. But while it might be disappointing to know there aren't any shocking surprises going into Kraven the Hunter, it's also nice to have all expectations in check. That way, we know exactly what we'll get, which is a disconnected origin story filled with many violent action sequences.

Only time will tell if J. C. Chandor's hopes of watching Kraven share the screen with characters from other franchises will come true or not. But based on early projections, it seems really unlikely. Kraven the Hunter is tracking to have a domestic opening of just $20 to $25 million, which is lower than the $39 million earned by Morbius in the same timeframe. With that in mind, it looks like the SSU might be running out of gas — especially now that Venom is out of the picture. Only positive reactions and Spidey's appearance could push Kraven's movie forward, and we now know one of those things won't become a reality. So the future is unfortunately looking grim for the world's greatest hunter.
