It's hard to deny December has been hard for Spider-Man fans. First, people in Chelsea, New York, spotted a very curious Spider logo being put on the side of a building. Then, it was reported a Spider-Verse announcement would be just around the corner — possibly tying up to that strange logo. Then fans deduced a trailer of the upcoming movie could be shown at Comic-Con Experience Brazil (CCXP) since that's where the first footage for Across the Spider-Verse was unveiled back in December 2021. It all came together so well for it to be a huge coincidence, but lo and behold...
While Sony did show up in CCXP, it was just to present a new look at their latest movie Kraven the Hunter. Oh, and that big Spider-Man logo that was set up in New York? Well, it was for a TV advertisement. Yeah, talk about disappointment. So to keep the bad streak of news going, we recently got an update on the production status of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Unfortunately, it isn't about something that anybody wants to hear.
Beyond the Spider-Verse actor confirms he hasn't recorded his lines yet
ScreenRant got the chance to talk to Miles G. Morales actor Jharrel Jerome about his upcoming film Unstoppable. Of course, Spidey was brought up in the conversation, so when asked if he had already recorded his lines for the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse movie, this is what Jharrel had to say:
"I haven't, but I also can't really say so much more because, you know, that's such a tight-knit ship. I don't even know much. I'm as much in the dark as you, but I'm excited to get back into it and see what they're thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one."
Unfortunately, those comments paint a very bleak picture. Many had hoped the movie would still be released in 2025, even when it was falsely claimed it was pushed back all the way to 2027. After all, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally planned to be released on March 29, 2024, before being indefinitely delayed. Many of us believed a year of delay would be more than enough to get the film ready, but it looks like we'll have to wait even longer.
After the release of Miles Morales' previous adventure, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it was reported that more than 100 animators quit the film due to poor work conditions. Some had to work up to 11 hours a day, seven days a week which needless to say isn't healthy nor sustainable. With that in mind, it's clear why Sony has taken their time on the sequel and refused to reveal anything way too early. Right now, they don't have to compromise on a specific date, giving them the perfect opportunity to ensure the quality of the end product doesn't come at the expense of their animators. But as soon as a release date is revealed, all cylinders must be fired up to ensure they meet the deadline.
While it's unfortunate to know there's a great possibility that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse won't be released until 2026, it's worth remembering that 2025 is still looking to be a great year. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on Jan. 29, 2025, and other exciting projects such as Daredevil: Born Again (which might set up the events of the MCU's Spider-Man 5) will also come soon. Besides, 2026 would be an incredibly exciting year for fans of the wall-crawler with Miles and Peter both swinging their way into the big screen.
Even if we still have to wait a lot, let's just hope the days of not knowing when to expect the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse soon come to an end.
