A Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse announcement may be imminent (and here's why)

After a lot of uncertainty and even reports of delays, it looks like we will finally get an official announcement regarding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

It isn't an exaggeration to say the Spider-Verse movies are some of the most beloved, popular, and well-crafted Spider-Man projects across any medium. Following the release of the highly acclaimed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, fans were eager to know how the story would be followed up. After all, things were left on quite a big cliffhanger as Miles didn't return to his home universe, but rather Earth-42 where his multiversal counterpart is a supervillain called The Prowler. But amidst all expectations, it was unfortunately announced the movie's follow-up would be indefinitely delayed.

After a long period of silence from Sony and Marvel, rumors surfaced suggesting Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse had huge sections scrapped and it wouldn't see the light of day until 2027 at the earliest. Fortunately, producer Christopher Miller cleared up the air and stated "Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely". It was a relief to get an official statement for sure, but it didn't get us anywhere closer to knowing a release date. Once again, were left in the dark for a bit, but it seems we might finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

A Spider-Verse announcement could come in December

As pointed out by user Phil on X (formerly Twitter), a very curious-looking spider symbol is being set up in Chelsea, New York. Of course, the sign could be related to any number of things, and not necessarily to Spider-Man (though it seems like a possibility). However, credible insider Alex Perez stepped in to let us all know something Spider-Man-related "is starting" while posting a picture of Gwen Stacy in her home neighborhood - Chelsea.

It seems like too much of a coincidence for a neon Spider symbol to be set up in the same New York neighborhood where Spider-Gwen lives. However, there's a bit more to the story. Alex Perez also teased a Spider-Verse announcement could come in December (though his sources haven't fully confirmed it yet). Even then, it seems to check out considering we got our first look at Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse during Brazil Comic-Con back in December 2021 (two years before that movie's release). So it's worth noting a new edition of the event will take place this year from the fifth to the eighth of December.

All pieces seem to indicate we could get an official release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse during CCXP Brasil. After all, the movie was originally supposed to come out in March 2024 before its delay. Besides, it's been over a year since the premiere of its predecessor, so it wouldn't be an exaggeration to assume Sony could start promoting the movie ahead of a 2026 release date (which is two years away from now, putting us in the same scenario that happened with the first look at Across the Spider-Verse).

Granted, all of this is pure speculation and rumors at the moment. But it seems Spider-Man fans could be in for a very amazing December given that Mysterio will steal the spotlight in What If...?, a Spider-Verse announcement could play out, and we'd be just around the corner from the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. After the news that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 won't have a DLC, this is just exactly what we needed.
