Kraven the Hunter to be the longest film in the SSU, says report
Kraven the Hunter is the latest (and last known) addition to Sony's Spider-Man Universe. As such, all eyes are on it to reach greater heights than its predecessors and succeed at being a great Spider-Man-related project without featuring the wall-crawler himself. So far, things are looking good considering the movie will attempt to do brand new things in the franchise, such as having an R-rating and letting its villainous titular character actually be a villain. However, a new report hints it may also break another record based on its length alone.
Kraven the Hunter will reportedly be a little over two hours long
According to reliable insider Cryptic HD QUALITY (who correctly reported the runtime of Venom: The Last Dance), Kraven the Hunter will be 2 hours and 6 minutes long. If that turns out to be the case, then it would position it as the first film in the SSU to cross the two-hour mark (which is an achievement I personally didn't think would happen). The same source also claimed back in November the original length of the movie was 1 hour and 50 minutes, but it seems things have changed since then. It appears Sony is still working on the movie to ensure it can be the best it can be, which means doing some tweaks along the way.
Proof of the fact that Kraven the Hunter is still undergoing major updates is how Sergei Kravinoff's origin story changed. It was implied in the first official trailer he would obtain his powers when a drop of a lion's blood entered his bloodstream. However, a new TV spot sees him drink a remedy potion to cure and enhance himself, which goes more in line with the character's origin in comic book pages. All of these upgrades — which include making the movie longer — will hopefully result in a better cinematic experience. Critical reception is, well, critical to convince audiences to watch the movie as early numbers don't paint a good picture in the slightest.
It's expected that Kraven the Hunter will make 20 to 25 million dollars in its domestic opening, which is half of what Morbius opened to. Furthermore, director J.C. Chandor recently went on record to ask fans to give the movie a chance, even amidst all the failures in the SSU. Needless to say, things are not looking great, which is a shame considering it has all the potential to be the best in the franchise. Granted, the bar to surpass isn't really that high, but early reactions to Kraven the Hunter indicate it could be a really good time with violent action sequences and well-choreographed fight scenes. On the bright side, it isn't long before we finally figure out if Sony struck gold or has another failure in its hands (but fingers crossed it is the former as they will definitely not return the Spider-Man rights to Marvel either way).
Kraven the Hunter will be released on Dec. 13, 2024.
