Over a year ago, Insomniac Games released the latest title of one of their most beloved franchises: Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It was a fantastic ride, by all means, but one that left us craving for more both in a good and bad way. On the one hand, no one could ever get enough of swinging throughout New York's skyline while saving the day. On the other, there were a few plotlines that remained unresolved, which left players eager for a DLC. Unfortunately, it was recently announced that such a day will never come, so it's time to move past Spidey's latest game and start looking at what might come next. However, there's one big problem: we aren't quite sure what will come next, so when can we expect an official announcement?
TGA is the perfect opportunity for Insomniac to make a big reveal
The eleventh edition of The Game Awards will take place on Dec. 12, 2024. The best part? It's reported it will be a "very big" show, which likely means some mind-blowing reveals are in store. There are many superhero games that were once announced only to dissapear for the following years. So chances are titles such as Monolith's untitled Wonder Woman or Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will take the spotlight. That being said, we all know Insomniac Games are always up to something, and chances are they have multiple projects in the works.
Marvel's Wolverine was announced more than three years ago back in September 2021. Since then, we've seen or heard absolutely nothing related to it in an official capacity. Granted, a big cause of that was the unfortunate hack and subsequent leaks that took place in 2023 — which surely pushed a lot of deadlines back. However, it isn't crazy to assume we could see at least a cinematic trailer for a title that was announced such a long time ago during TGA.
Furthermore, it's been rumored for quite some time now that a Venom stand-alone video game is in the works. Add to that the evident release of Marvel's Spider-Man 3, and it's easy to see why Insomniac should start gearing up to make a huge announcement soon. Besides, let's not forget Sony likes to have a big presence at TGA. Last year, they revealed God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla in that very same stage, and chances are they won't want to miss out on this occasion either. So what better way to make a statement than with one of their most beloved studios?
If we were to assume either Marvel's Wolverine or the unannounced Venom game could be released around Christmas of next year (or perhaps early 2026), that would mean there's just one year left to advertise their upcoming projects. The clock is ticking, and players are waiting. We want to see what's next, so fingers crossed it isn't long before that day finally comes. And, hey, if Insomniac fails to make a big surprise, then chances are another superhero title will take the spotlight.
