New Year, new Spider-Man comic books to read!
2025 is finally here which means the wall-crawler and his ensemble of extended characters will be the stars of many promising and exciting new stories. New sagas such as Eddie Brock: Carnage (2025) will be released, while fan favorites including Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) will start a brand new arc capable of surpassing everything that came before them. It's an exciting time to be a fan of the web-slinger, especially because January will be stacked with new issues and even a Disney+ animated series. So without further ado, here are all Spider-Man-related comic books releasing this month.

With so many new tales on the horizon, it can sometimes be hard to know exactly which issues to get. Fortunately, we already have a review live for three of them (at the time of writing this) so that you can determine if they catch your eye or not. But long story short: Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #28 is a fantastic comic book that perfectly expanded upon its predecessor to tell an amazing tale filled with high stakes and even some heartwarming comic relief. We gave it a score of 9.5 out of 10, meaning it should be a must-read for any Spidey fan out there. Issues 27 and 28 blend together really well so you should get them both if possible. I promise: They won't disappoint. And based on that, we should keep an eye out for issue #29 as well which will be released later this month.
On the other hand, we rated The Spectacular Spider-Men (2024) #11 a 7 out of 10. Listen, I personally love the saga and think the Arcadum arc was fun, and even a bit heartbreaking at times given that Peter got to experience what a life with Gwen Stacy could've been like. Furthermore, the series made it into our top 5 Spidey comic book moments of 2024. That being said, this latest issue was a bit out of place with the current arc—even if it does feature some good whacky comic book moments. With that in mind, I'd advise you to wait until number #12 is released to pick the story right back up.
As for the Ghost-Spider series, it hasn't quite managed to reach groundbreaking highs due to the rather cliche story it's currently exploring. With that in mind, we rated the latest issue in the saga a 6.5 out of 10, and I'm not quite sure if this first arc will end on a high note. On the bright side, the second arc is on the horizon and Loki will make his introduction, so we'd all better wait until then to see how Gwen does in the comic book realm.
As for the other series; Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) has been on a winning streak ever since its inception. Many of us consider it the very best ongoing Spidey saga right now (fun fact: it's also the only one to get a perfect 10 score here in Whatever A Spider Can). To make things even better, we're about to start Kraven's arc which might be very violent and dark if issue #12 of the saga is anything to go by. All things considered, Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #13 shouldn't be missed, which is also the case for All-New Venom (2024) #2. The debut number of Venom's new series presented a simple yet effective mystery that will keep readers entertained for quite some time. It's very refreshing to see The Lethal Protector fighting street-level villains once again after all the cosmic and larger-than-life adventures he's had.
Last, but not least, we need to talk about The Amazing Spider-Man. This scenario is a bit more complicated as I can't simply recommend it to everyone even if I've been personally enjoying a lot lately. I'd say it mostly comes down to personal preference. First, it's important to clarify the saga has seen a resurgence arc in the last couple of issues now that Joe Kelly and Justina Ireland have taken over the spot that Zeb Wells used to have as the main writer. Truth be told: I've been loving the Eight Deaths of Spider-Man arc. That being said, not many fans like the idea of watching their favorite hero literally die many times in a row. So if you're one of them, I'd advise keeping away from The Amazing Spider-Man until April when the saga will be rebooted. However, if you don't mind watching Peter die, then I'd strongly advise you to catch up from issue #61 onwards since there are some amazing stories here.
Which comic books to get
To wrap things up—and basically summarize all those lengthy paragraphs above—I'd say the following Spider-Man issues are a most for any fans of the character:
- Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #28 - (01/01/2025)
- All-New Venom (2024) #2 - (01/08/2025)
- Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #29 - (01/15/2025)
- Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #13 - (01/22/2025)
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2024) #2 won't likely feature any shocking reveals, and we'll make sure to break it all down here in Whatever A Spider Can so that you don't have to go over it if you don't want to. Also, I'd also highly recommend getting The Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #65 and #66 if you don't mind the direction of the current arc, which sees Peter die multiple times in a row. It's 100% better than Zeb Well's previous run, and you can check out some of our reviews here in case you're looking into a more in-depth analysis.
On the bright side, there's a little something for every Spidey fan out there, and we can't wait to see what else comes as the year goes by.
