Sony is reportedly working on this failed Spider-Man movie for the second time

Sony has a history of failed Spider-Man projects that never saw the light of day, but it seems they might try to bring one of them to life again.

It's undeniable Sony has a bit of a bad history of canceling Spider-Man projects. From Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4, all the way to Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man 3 and even a movie that would've seen Silver Sable and Black team up titled Silver & Black. However, there's one specific idea that has been on the back of Sony's mind for quite some time now. It's one they already attempted to pull off once without success, and it looks like they might just try again.

Sony reportedly working on a Sinister Six movie once again

According to superhero insider MyTimeToShineHello, Sony is working on a Sinister Six movie. It seems like the next logical step to follow after creating multiple stand-alone movies based on Spider-Man villains. Audiences even witnessed an interaction between Michael Keaton's Vulture and Jared Leto's Morbius take place in a pretty confusing post-credits scene. After all, Adrian Toomes lives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is a different reality than that of Sony's movies. So it's clear the intention is to bring the supervillains together no matter the narrative cost.

Interestingly enough, this wouldn't mark the first time there's an attempt to create a Sinister Six movie. There was a time when the project was officially announced and Drew Goddard was in the director's seat. The intention was to tie it into Andrew Garfield's franchise, as it was teased during the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn discovered the Oscorp building had an entire level dedicated to "Special Projects" in which Doctor Octopus' tentacles, Vultures' wings, Rhino's suit, and the Goblin's glider were all stored. Furthermore, Gustav Fiers, AKA the Gentleman, talked about finding "candidates" for a special, evil team. But if all of that wasn't enough of a clue, then the credits treated audiences to a VFX montage of Spider-Man villains that would integrate the team. Kraven The Hunter was included, and it's speculated Mysterio would join the ranks too.

Reportedly, Drew Goddard's script featured Spider-Man riding a T-Rex in Savage Land. Furthermore, Doctor Octoups would've attempted to recruit an alien named "Gog" to the Sinister Six, but the creature would've eventually turned out to be the big bad of the film. But even if Sony moves forward with a new iteration of the movie, chances are the script would be completely different, and the characters in it would change as well.

Currently, it looks like the new roster of Sinister Six could consist of Michael Keaton's Vulture, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven, Jared Leto's Morbius, and three other unknown characters. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume Michael Mando's Mac Gargan could join the list as well as The Scorpion since his character was teased in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Besides, even if Tom Hardy's Venom trilogy is coming to an end really soon, it doesn't mean he can't show up in other Spider-Man projects (as it has been heavily rumored). And what about the sixth member? Well, it wouldn't hurt to see the return of Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio.
