This Spider-Man veteran confirms he won't appear in Spider-Man 4; fans shocked
The Multiverse Saga is in full swing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a result, audiences eagerly await to be surprised by unexpected cameos and secret appearances on upcoming live-action projects. How could they not? Deadpool & Wolverine and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured shocking characters that few could've seen coming. Better yet; things will only get better as get closer to the release of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. So one thing that has been in audiences' minds for quite some time now is: Will Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire make a surprise appearance in Spider-Man 4? Well, it seems unlikely given recent comments made by a Marvel veteran star.
Andrew Garfield confirms he won't appear in Spider-Man 4
IndieWire had the chance to attend the premiere of Andrew Garfield's new movie titled We Live in a Time, so they asked him about his involvement in Spider-Man 4. However, the English actor was quick to dismiss his appearance in the wall-crawler's next stand-alone adventure:
"I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there is a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid."
- Andrew Garfield
This isn't the first time Andrew has been asked if he'd get to wear the iconic red and blue suit on the big screen after the end of The Amazing Spider-Man saga. He was famously known for attempting to mislead audiences into believing he wouldn't be in Spider-Man: No Way Home before the movie's release, but multiple leaks indicated otherwise. However, this time things aren't as certain.
To this date, Spider-Man 4 hasn't been officially revealed by Sony, and fans are waiting to learn about a release date. While many rumors have flown left and right, they often tend to contradict themselves. Some claim Spider-Man 4 will be a street-level and grounded movie while others report it will heavily involve the multiverse. Perhaps Sony and Marvel themselves aren't quite so sure in which direction to take the upcoming project and how to tie it into a wider MCU. With that in mind, it seems Andrew's appearance could really be out of the picture.
Everything's not grim, however, as there's a chance he could make a comeback in Avengers: Secret Wars; Marvel's most ambitious crossover. But until then, it's best to believe Andrew Garfield himself and not to get our hopes too high for a Spider-Man 4 appearance. In the best of cases, we get pleasantly surprised.
Chances are the English actor will get asked more about Spider-Man as he promotes his upcoming movie We Live in a Time, which stars yet another Marvel hero: Florence Pugh. Early previews are saying the two have amazing chemistry on-screen, and that they'll make you shed a tear or two along the way (which isn't surprising given how heartbreaking the trailer seems). Director Luca Guadagnino reunites with Garfield for the first time in nearly 20 years to tell a story about unconditional love through difficult times. Fortunately, it seems audiences will be in for a great rollercoaster of a ride once it releases.
We Live In a Time premieres on January 1, 2025.
