Don't you hate it when you turn into a vampire and you now have to fight the urge to consume blood? Well, that's exactly what happened to Miles Morales during the events of Blood Hunt (2024) #2. Suddenly, the friendly neighborhood hero wasn't so friendly anymore as he was unable to control his vampiric nature. He nearly killed The Vulture in a very violent manner right in front of the villain's granddaughter. Shocker by his actions after regaining control of his senses, he turned to the Black Panther in a desperate attempt for a cure.
While Miles didn't find what he wanted at first, he was given a vibranium suit that helped him resist his bloodlust. Furthermore — with a bit more perseverance, the help of the King of Wakanda, and a trip to the lands of the gods — Miles finally eradicated the vampiric demon living within him. The downside? This crusade to save his humanity might cost him down the line, all due to one trickster god.
Miles Morales is the Spider God's new herald
During the events of Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #28, Miles traverses into the realm of the gods to ask Bast to cure him of the vampiric disease as the deity once did for T'Challa. It all seemed pretty straightforward until Anansi — a Spider God infamous for his trickery — enters the scene and reveals that he has "claimed" Miles and that he'll be the one to cure him. He asks one simple thing in exchange: The Spider-Man must pass a trial and "provide a good story".
As it usually is in the realm of the gods, not everything is as simple as it appears. What seemed like an easy trial turned out to be a big fight between Black Panther and Spider-Man. And why would the two heroes battle each other? Well, Anansi allowed the spirit of Varnae (the lord of all Vampires) to possess T'Challa once again. Miles attempts to stand his ground but quickly discovers his punches are no match for the vibranium suit of his opponent. Furthermore, after a lengthy confrontation, Miles realizes that it's his fault Varnae possessed the King of Wakanda who was simply trying to help him. Spider-Man refuses to be cured if it comes at the expense of infecting his friend. So he decides to give up and let the Black Panther bite him to end this nightmare once and for all.
Just when everything seems grim, it's revealed it was all part of the trial, and both Miles and T'Challa are cured of their vampirism. Finally, the wall-crawler can enjoy peace at last... or, so it seemed. During the final pages of Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #29, it was revealed that Miles is Anansi's new herald and his new delegated champion. What exactly does that mean for the super-powered teenager? Well, it remains to be seen, but we can't imagine the selfish god to have any good intentions. That means Spider-Man might have walked out of a crisis straight into another one.
To make things even more complicated, Miles won't get to return to a peaceful life in Brooklyn now that he's cured. Instead, he'll have to fight against two Deadpools in the upcoming "Pools of Blood" comic book arc. And with Anansi's impending threat, things will only get worse for Miles from here onwards. On the bright side, comic book readers are the ones to enjoy all of these conflicts as Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) is proving to be a fantastic run that'll have even more explosive action to come. And one thing's for certain: The next issue can't come soon enough.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #30 will be released on Feb. 19, 2025.
