We're less than a month away from the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and there are still many things we don't know about it. For starters, we've only seen one official trailer and we still don't have a confirmation if all ten episodes will come out at once or if we'll see daily/weekly releases. But perhaps the worst part is the main villain of the series hasn't been revealed yet.
Now, we know Norman Osborn will make an appearance and he could very easily turn into the Green Goblin. Furthermore, the first Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comic book hinted that Silvermane will have a big role to play. With that in mind, any of the two villains are candidates for being the main antagonist of the series. However, recent news might have thrown all theories aside to give us an official confirmation of who'll control everything from the shadows, and the answer is everything we could've hoped for.
Kingpin will make an appearance in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
As revealed by Variety, Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. He's the second Daredevil star to come back for the Disney+ series, as Charlie Cox will voice The Man Without Fear himself, Matt Murdock. It's worth pointing out that the animated show will present a brand-new origin story completely isolated from any other Marvel Cinematic Universe stories. That means we'll see new takes on Daredevil and The Kingpin of Crime completely disconnected from the Echo storyline.
Kingpin and Spider-Man have been long-time rivals in comic book pages. Currently, Wilson Fisk is the big bad of the ongoing Ultimate Spider-Man run. Besides, he's also been the villain of fan-favorite stories such as Back in Black. Besides, the wall-crawler has gone up against him in TV series and video games such as Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4, among others. With that in mind, it isn't surprising to know this rivalry will also make its way into Disney's upcoming project.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2024) #1 revealed that Silvermane is after the land in which Peter's high school, Midtown High, was built. Furthermore, he'll send long-time villains The Enforcers after the wall-crawler, and he has a bodyguard named Marko under his payroll. Now, I'm not saying that's the Sandman, but that's definitely the Sandman protecting him. Needless to say, Silvio Manfredi is a very big and dangerous threat. However, there's also the possibility that the mob boss is just following the orders of someone even more powerful.
Since Spider-Man: No Way Home was a multiversal adventure, and its follow-up will likely follow that same path, it's nice to know Marvel will go back to basics and have the web-slinger face Mob Bosses in his upcoming animated series. The best part is that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man won't connect to other MCU projects. That way, Kingpin can be Spidey's archnemesis on animated shows while he continues to hunt Daredevil in the live-action series.
Fingers crossed this new take on Wilson Fisk manages to be as threatening and dangerous as its MCU counterpart. At the very least, he'll sound as angry and conflicted given that Vincent D'Onofrio will voice him, so that's definitely a win in our book!
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on Jan. 29, 2025.
