Talk about long overdue. Announced back in 2021 under the name Spider-Man: Freshman Year, the Disney+ series would undergo a series of changes that would result in its inevitable delay. What was once the tale of how Peter Parker became the wall-crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe shifted into its own stand-alone story where symbiotes will be involved, Daredevil has a major role, and Doctor Strange will be partially responsible for the creation of the wall-crawler. Just like that, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was born, and we're not too far away from finally getting to experience it.
The highly-anticipated series will be coming on January 29, 2025. With such a little time left, fans eagerly anticipated an official trailer to be released, but even when a lucky few fans were able to witness it on D23, nothing made its way online... until now. With a month left to go until the big release, Marvel decided it was the perfect time for everyone to get a glimpse of what will be in store, and things are looking even better than expected.

The animation looks reminiscent of the Ultimate Spider-Man (2005) video game, with 3D graphics that aim to emulate the visual style of comic books. While we already had a little glimpse of the series, it's great to have a first extended look. Besides, we also hear what the main theme will be like, and it's a mix of the classic song from the 1967 TV series, with a modern twist added to the mix. That results in a very unique yet recognizable theme that's nothing short of amazing.
Even if audiences won't witness how Tom Holland's Peter Parker gained his powers in the MCU, this is still an origin story. That's why we see this new version of Peter in high school, where he'll spend time with other iconic characters such as Flash Thompson and Harry Osborn. And speaking of the Osborns, we've known for quite a while Norman would be Peter's mentor in this tale opposed to Tony Stark as it was in the MCU. So it's nice to finally have a glimpse of that dynamic, even if there's likely to be some friction between the two characters as more episodes go by. After all, Norman wants to do things in a more unorthodox manner while Peter is keen on always doing the right thing. We all know that will eventually go south and might result in the creation of the Green Goblin. The only question remaining is: Will it happen in this season?
It's worth pointing out that the tale of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has already started in comic book pages. Issue #1 of the saga gave us a taste of what we'll see once the series drops, and it looks like Silvio Manfredi AKA Silvermane will have a big role to play. For some mysterious reason, he wants the land on which Midtown High is built, so he stages a big explosion to get everybody out of the premises and sends his men to finish the job. Unfortunately for them, Peter is on the scene, and he stops them from achieving their goal. Learning that there's a new hero in town, Silvermane will send The Enforcerers (and perhaps even the Sandman himself) after a recently bitten Peter Paker.
All things considered, our first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man definitely met expectations. On the bright side, we won't have to wait long to know if it lives up to the likes of X-Men '97 or not.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on Jan. 29, 2025.
