The date is October 19, 2018. We all tune in to watch the latest season of one of the best superhero shows ever made: Netflix's Daredevil. By the time the credits rolled, audiences were hooked thanks to the amazing storytelling and the promise of Bullseye's return. Time couldn't go fast enough for the fourth season to be released, and then tragedy struck. The Netflix and Disney deal was over, and Daredevil's future remained uncertain for many years until an unlikely project turned the tide around. Ever since Matt Murdock made a quick cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we've all been dying to see the Man Without Fear star in his own stand-alone project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that day is nearly here.
With a bit over two months until the release of Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel decided it was finally time to give us a glimpse into what the show has in store. Fortunately, it looks like audiences are in for a very violent ride filled with well-choreographed fight scenes, tense dialog, and lots of blood. You know; exactly the things we expect from the Man Without Fear and his cast of supporting characters. So without further ado, here's the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again and everything you should know about it.
A new terrifying threat is in town
Wilson Fisk is bound to steal the scene in any project he's in. Vincent D'Onofrio's chilling performance as the Kingpin of Crime has earned him the spot as the main villain in Netflix's Daredevil, the Hawkeye series, and Echo. So of course, audiences are looking forward to what mischievous scheme he's up to now. However, he won't be the only one causing problems in Hell's Kitchen as a new (and perhaps more dangerous) threat is also on the horizon.
As revealed by the trailer, Muse will make his live-action debut in Daredevil: Born Again. In comic book pages, he's a deranged artist known for kidnapping people and using their blood to paint "works of art". This falls in line with a line we heard in the D23 trailer which revealed people have been going missing in Hell's Kitchen, hinting at the villain's masterplan. Besides, can also see a shot of bodies hanging in a warehouse on the official trailer, likely being Muse's work. While Muse had a relatively short run on comic books, he proved to be a frightening villain and chances are the live-action series could only make him a scarier threat — one that will need to be stopped by any means necessary. Speaking of which...
Daredevil and Kingpin: Long-time enemies turned allies
"You've come up in the world, but now you can't protect this city on your own. I wonder if your darker half would agree."
For three seasons straight, we've witnessed Daredevil and Kingpin be at odds in some form or another. It's perhaps one of the longest-standing (and definitely best) rivalries in the MCU, and it looks like it will soon take an unexpected turn. As revealed by the teaser trailer, Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock will be forced to join forces in order to stop the new threat looming over Hell's Kitchen. After all, both characters love their city in two very different ways and are willing to sacrifice everything to see her in her best form.
This team-up will allow for complex and potentially dangerous character dynamics as we can't imagine it will all be smooth sailing. Getting to watch Daredevil and Kingpin join forces is definitely an interesting concept worth exploring until the dust settles and the two return to their old ways. After all, we know the supervillain will hunt all vigilantes in the city at some point in the series, just as it happened in comic book pages. That's right, a Devil's Reign adaptation is on its way.
The Punisher and Daredevil will try to escape the Devil's Reign
During the teaser trailer of Daredevil: Born Again, we see Frank Castle and Matt Murdock being chased by armed men who seem a little too well-equipped for the occasion. Well, it's easy to deduce what is really going on if we also consider the official trailer also has a line in which Kingpin says "a Mayor serves his city". You guessed it; Wilson Fisk is taking advantage of his position as Mayor of New York to send armed forces to hunt all vigilantes in the City.
In comic book pages, Devil's Reign is a fantastic six-issue arc that depicts the same storyline the Disney+ show is going for. Big characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Miles Morales' Spider-Man all teamed up when being on the loose after being outlawed. While it's unlikely for all those heroes to show up in Daredevil: Born Again, we can assume the Kingpin's new reach is the reason why The Punisher and the Man Without Fear will join forces once again (and why we'll have that Spider-Man easter egg)
The dark tone of the Netflix adaptation is still here
Last but not least, it's worth pointing out that the Daredevil: Born Again trailer seems to keep the same dark tone and level of violence that made us fall in love with the Netflix adaptation. We hear reports of people going missing, witness well-choreographed fight scenes, see blood being spilled around all over the place, and get a glimpse of some moments filled with tension. While we'll have to wait until the release date to figure out if Disney managed to make Matt Murdock justice, it seems we're on the right road.
Before the creative reboot, Daredevil: Born Again was going to be a completely different series that didn't even include the likes of Foggy Nelson or Karen Page. Besides, it was rumored that Matt Murdock wouldn't even suit up to fight crime until the third episode. Fortunately, there was a course correction mid-production and now the cast and crew are more hopeful about the show than ever. Fingers crossed it managed to deliver just as much as the first official trailer did.
Daredevil: Born Again will be released on March 4, 2025, on Disney+.
