Will The Amazing Spider-Man 3 happen? This is what reports have to say
Now more than ever, the future of Spider-Man on the big screen has been surrounded by a lot of secrecy and mystery. Rumors fly left and right regarding the highly-anticipated Spider-Man 4, and some of them seem to clash with each other about what the movie is going to be. Tom Holland recently said he read a draft of the script and that it's "excellent" but still needs work to be done. So not only do we have a lot of doubts about the character's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but outside of it as well.
Sony's Spider-Man Universe has famously lacked a version of the wall-crawler to fight with the likes of Venom and Morbius. Naturally, it wasn't long before fans wondered if maybe Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker could fill that void in a potential third stand-alone movie. For a long time, that was just pure speculation and hope without any real basis. However, it seems we could finally have a conclusive answer to go by.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is unlikely to happen
Established insider Alex Perez, from The Cosmic Circus, doesn't believe The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will ever happen. Furthermore, he says the story of "our boys" (talking about Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Peter Parkers) is coming to an end.
Even if The Amazing Spider-Man hasn't been the most beloved wall-crawler franchise on the big screen, its abrupt ending left us with many questions. How did Peter come to terms with Gwen's death? What happened to Harry Osborn and his plans to form the Sinister Six? Did Felicia Hardy ever suited up as Black Cat? Fans want at least one more entry in the franchise to see an ending to Andrew Garfield's story. Unlike Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, he didn't have a chance at a proper farewell. And while we could still see it in another crossover movie, nothing would compare to one last stand-alone adventure.
Fortunately, even if we don't get The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4, that doesn't mean we won't ever see them again in the MCU. In fact, it has been reported by the same source that the two previous Spider-Men could show up "for an extended role" in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man 4. Besides, we still have Avengers: Secret Wars down the line, which is supposed to bring together many multiversal heroes to fight a common enemy (likely to be Doctor Doom). So it sounds like a perfect place for an arachnid reunion to take place.
There has been much talk about the future of Andrew Garfield's wall-crawler. During a QA for his upcoming film We Live In Time, the British actor was asked if we'd come back to the iconic role, to which he responded:
"Not that I am aware of right now but, you know, never say never. But, nice try."
- Andrew Garfield
It's a very cryptic answer that could be interpreted either way. However, one thing's for certain: even when he denied his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he still showed up to save the day in the movie. So there's always a slight chance he's hiding something from us yet again - especially given how the MCU's multiverse saga has been going, and the recent success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Andrew first portrayed the role of Peter Parker in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man back in 2012. Since then, he played the role just two more times (being the Spider-Man who has suited up the least) with his most recent appearance taking place in the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home. Audiences really enjoyed watching his character again on the big screen, and petitions started for him to make a comeback in other upcoming projects. At the time, his future is still officially unknown. But maybe we'll get a more conclusive answer the closer we get to the release of Spider-Man 4.
