It may be hard to believe, but we're nearly 22 years away from the release of the first live-action Spider-Man movie. Since that moment, we've witnessed the wall-crawler wear 15 different costumes on the big screen, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. However, there are a few that are widely beloved by the community such as Andrew Garfield's second Amazing Spider-Man suit, and others that failed to leave a big impression (looking at you, "Night Monkey" costume made by S.H.I.E.L.D).

But there's one question that usually remains unasked: What's the most underrated Spider-Man suit? The one which might not be too popular, but is still beautiful in its own right. Well, there are a lot of options to choose from, but one particular answer might be quick to pop into mind.

The homemade suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming is heavily underrated

Right out of the gate, homemade suits don't get the same love and appreciation as "regular" Spider-Man fits - and understandably so. They are only meant to be a transitory step. Peter might not be fully ready to be the friendly neighborhood hero yet, and it shows in his costume. However, he eventually grows into the part and gets an upgraded look to represent that. But that's not to say that the original vision can't stand out on its own either.

We've seen three different versions of the homemade suit across the years. Andrew Garfield's was arguably the worst as it consisted of a red mask, a beanny, and a regular jacket. Aside from the color "red", there's nothing there that indicates we're witnessing the origin of Spider-Man. Tobey's costume, on the other hand, did have a big spider logo along with a red and blue palette of colors. However, it's difficult to believe a broke teenager from Queens was able to craft a near-perfect wrestling suit from one day to another.

Then, we have Tom Holland's homemade costume. First and foremost; you can figure out it's meant to represent Spider-Man by getting one quick glance at it. Besides, it does seem like something a teenager could create without any help. And sure, it can be a little bit goofy, but it also has a charm that no other live-action has been able to replicate. The bright tonality of its colors and the roundness of the lenses give off a look that's impossible not to love.

Furthermore, Tom Holland's homemade costume has a great emotional significance in Spider-Man: Homecoming. After Peter spends most of the movie trying to be like his personal idol, Iron Man (even wearing a suit made by him), the teenager eventually realizes he could be a friendly neighborhood hero in his own right and goes back to basics. The final act sees Peter defeat the Vulture while wearing his first-ever Spider-Man costume and let me tell you: it fits perfectly this time around.

Tom Holland's homemade suit might not get the praise it deserves, but whenever we revisit Spider-Man: Homecoming and watch it in action, we can't help but feel as if we're watching something truly special.
