From the moment Iron Man premiered until the release of Avengers: Endgame, many of us saw Tony Stark as the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, his time came to an end when he paid the ultimate price to defeat Thanos and his forces - proving he was capable of being a selfless hero along the way. With him, many fan favorites also left us, including Captain America and Natasha Romanoff. Now, it's impossible not to wonder who will be the new face of the MCU going forward.
Some characters like Doctor Strange are likely candidates due to their narrative importance, and others like Scarlet Witch are powerful enough to protect Earth against any threat. However, there's one hero a bit more beloved than others, and that's none other than Spider-Man himself. That's why Spider-Man: Far From Home attempted to position him as the "successor to Iron Man". We know he's popular and beloved enough to be at the front and center of many upcoming projects without audiences getting tired of him. So it doesn't come as a huge surprise that he could be the star of a big MCU crossover with ever-lasting repercussions.
Spider-Man could be one of the main leads in Avengers: Secret Wars
As reported by renowned insider Alex Perez, via The Cosmic Circus, Spider-Man will be "one of the main leads" in Avengers: Secret Wars. After all, he's part of the reason the multiverse itself is at risk of collapsing. When he asked Doctor Strange to cast a spell to make the whole world forget his identity, he inadvertently set in motion a sequence of events that led to the death of Aunt May and the beginning of a multiversal incursion. Different realities will collide with each other, destroying many of them in the process, and Peter is one of the few people to fault for that. So making Spidey one of the main leads would prove to be the right choice to give the movie a proper emotional arc.
The idea of Spidey being one of the main faces in Avengers: Secret Wars also falls in line with another report that claims his relationship with Doctor Doom will be more important than that of Doom with Reed Richards (which, on a personal note, I don't like at all). The ruler of Latveria will undoubtedly have a huge role to play both in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and he'll antagonize a few heroes more than others. Just like Thanos interacted more with Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Gamora than, say, War Machine, the same will happen with Marvel's new big threat. So if Spidey is one of those characters who'll repeatedly come face-to-face with Victor von Doom, chances are he'll have more screen time.
Peter Parker's arc, then, could be very interesting in Avengers: Secret Wars. Audiences could see him face the consequences of his actions when a multiversal incursion occurs, even if no one knows he's the one to blame since his identity was completely erased. Furthermore, he'll cross paths with a supervillain who shares the same face as his former mentor. And he'll have to face everything alone, without the help of Ned or even M.J. now that they are out of his life (unless that changes in Spider-Man 4). If that's the case, Avengers: Infinity War could have high stakes emotionally and physically as the multiverse is torn apart.
Whatever the case may be, it's clear we haven't seen the last of the wall-crawler. His story will be followed up in Spider-Man 4 and Avengers: Doomsday. So it would be quite a shocker if he didn't have an important role to play in Secret Wars as well.
