We could finally know when to expect a DLC reveal for Marvel's Spider-Man 2
We are less than 50 days away from celebrating the first anniversary of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release. Originally launched on October 20, 2023, the game was met with overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans and critics alike. Furthermore, it sold more than five million copies during its first ten days on the market. With that in mind, many expected developer Insomniac to announce DLC soon after the game's release to capitalize on its success. But while that has yet to happen, it seems things could finally take a turn for the better.
Rumor has it that a new PlayStation 5 Pro system will be released this year. Many even suspect acclaimed developer, Hideo Kojima, secretly confirmed it by posting a picture of him playing a game with a PS5 controller connected to a console covered under a blanket. After all, if the console was simply a normal PS5, why hide it? It seems like Sony could be gearing up to make a huge reveal, and it would need big titles in order to do that. Fortunately, that's where Marvel's Spider-Man 2 comes in.
A State of Play could take place in September with huge announcements
According to insider Jeff Grubb, a State of Play event will take place at the end of September where the PlayStation 5 Pro may finally be revealed (considering a 2024 launch is rumored to be expected). Such a big announcement would also mark the perfect moment for Insomniac to showcase what they have been working on for the past year or so. After all, it's worth noting that Sony already has a history of revealing its consoles with Spider-Man games.
The first glimpse players ever got of the power of the PS5 came courtesy of a video where Sony compared the loading times of Marvel's Spider-Man on the PS4 Pro and their newest console. Additionally, the 2020 PlayStation Showcase highlighted Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales as one of the day-one launches of the PS5.
If Sony wants to convince players to switch over to PlayStation consoles (or just upgrade their base PS5) then what better way to do it than with one of the most popular and beloved heroes ever? Besides, this event would also be the perfect opportunity to release a new look at Marvel's Wolverine. While the highly-anticipated game isn't reported to appear at the State of Play, it's been almost three years since we last saw something official related to it. Wouldn't it be a huge selling point to remind players such a high-profile game would also come to a PS5 Pro?
Jeff Grubb has a solid track record when it comes to reporting insider news. Even then, it's important to take all rumors with a grain of salt and not get too excited ahead of time. But one way or the other, the DLC announcement for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 should be imminent, especially now that we're a few weeks away from one year of its release.
