Every Spider-Man movie, series, and game yet to come in 2024
There's no denying it's been a bit of a slow year for Spider-Man fans so far. While February saw the release of Madame Web (which was very underwhelming, to say the least), no other project featuring the wall-crawler or his supporting characters has seen the light of the day outside the realm of comic books. However, that's all about to change very soon.
Three Spider-Man-related projects are confirmed to be released in the second half of 2024. Better yet; two others are likely to come this year as well even if they don't have an official release date yet. So it's time to break them all down as we look at what the future has in store for us and our favorite friendly neighborhood hero!
Venom: The Last Dance
It all comes down to this.
The Venom saga is coming to an end later this year, which may be hard to believe considering this version of Lethal Protector hasn't crossed paths with Spider-Man yet. Could the final chapter in the franchise rectify this mistake and give us the surprise of a lifetime? Or do we have to settle with that one Venom: Let There Be Carnage post-credits scene where Eddie briefly sees Peter Parker on TV? Fortunately, we'll find out the answer to that soon enough!
Sony's upcoming movie looks more than promising, even if our friendly neighborhood hero ultimately fails to show up in it. As if a full-on alien invasion and Eddie escaping from military agencies weren't enough, we'll also get to watch the symbiote bond with a horse to create one hellish (but really cool) creature. Yeah, that itself is worth the ticket price.
All pieces are set for the Venom franchise to go out with a bang, so now it's just a matter of waiting for Venom: The Last Dance to hit theaters later this year on October 25.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Marvel's recent record with animated series has been nothing but flawless. Both seasons of What If...? have given us entertaining stories often better than the ones told in live-action projects. Furthermore, X-Men 97' managed to capture the magic of the original series while bringing the Mutants to a new era of television. So, of course, we're more than ready for Spider-Man to receive that same treatment.
We've come a long way since Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (originally titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year) was announced all the way back in 2021. There was even a time when we weren't so sure if the series would even come out or not. But it seems the wait will be worth it in the end. After all, this upcoming Spider-Man project will take the character back to his roots as a broke high schooler trying to balance his personal life with superhero responsibilities.
But if that isn't enough, the series will also feature fan-favorite characters such as Norman Osborn, Otto Octavius, and even Matt Murdock - with Charlie Cox voicing the part. Fortunately, it won't be long before we discover more about this highly anticipated project (and maybe even get a trailer) with D23 just around the corner.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is expected to release later this year on Disney+.
Kraven the Hunter
Let's be honest for a moment and admit Sony has a shaky record with its live-action movies based on supporting Spider-Man characters. Venom is the only franchise that has somewhat escaped a bad reputation, and even then some fans have mixed feelings about it. But could that curse finally be broken with the release of Kraven the Hunter later this year?
The upcoming Sony movie will have an R-rating, which already makes it stand out from many other superhero movies. Besides, it will also feature another popular Spider-Man supervillain in the form of The Rhino. Finally, Kraven will wear a comic-book-accurate suit and, from what we can see in the trailer, he'll hunt many henchmen in the movie. So everything seems to indicate that Sony is about to do the impossible and create a good movie based on a Spider-Man villain. So fingers crossed this one turns out to be memorable (or at least better than Madame Web and Morbius),
Kraven the Hunter is set to release on December 13, 2024.
Unconfirmed: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC
Brace yourself, folks, as we're about to enter speculation territory. Officially, Insomniac Games hasn't even confirmed they are working on DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Furthermore, they recently said they have nothing to announce regarding any game expansions. But there's no sense in trying to hide it, as we all know the truth.
Earlier in the year, an update for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 mistakenly allowed every player to access the game's developer mode, which includes tools intended only for... well, developers to see. Fans were quick to dissect every hidden option in it, ultimately spotting a list of levels that haven't been released yet. While attempting to access any of these missions was met with unsuccessful results, the cat was already out of the bag. It was revealed Insomniac is indeed working on DLC for the game, and now the only question remaining is when will it be released.
Could Gamescom surprise us and give us an official release date? Well, it seems unlikely considering PlayStation prefers to save such big news for its own events. However, it isn't impossible. After all, chances are the first expansion for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (out of the three rumored) will hit stores sometime in 2024, especially considering it's been almost a year since the game's release.
Unconfirmed: Marvel Rivals
While not technically a Spider-Man-centric video game, Marvel Rivals will feature the wall-crawler as one of multiple playable characters. While there isn't a release date set in stone yet for the upcoming PvP shooter, developer NetEase Games has recently conducted Closed Beta tests for consoles and Closed Alpha Tests for PCs. So it wouldn't be all that crazy to assume the game could see a late 2024 release.
Fortunately, it isn't long before we learn more official news about the game. Gamescom will take place from August 21 to 25, and we can expect Marvel Rivals to have a heavy presence. So chances are not only we'll find out about new characters and abilities, but also when will the game be available for players worldwide! And when that happens, we'll be sure to break it down here in Whatever A Spider Can! So stick around for everything Spider-Man-Related.
