Charlie Cox shares how he learned Andrew Garfield was in Spider-Man: No Way Home
There was a time were audiences worldwide didn't know for sure Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would make a comeback in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even with all the leaks and set photos that made their way online, the idea of an arachnid reunion on the big screen just seemed too good to be true which ultimately generated a lot of skepticism. Furthermore, Andrew Garfield appeared in multiple interviews prior to the movie's release, denying every single time his involvement in Spidey's multiversal adventure. However, there were a few people who knew the truth before everybody else, and Charlie Cox was among them.
During a panel at the Tampa Bay Comic Convention, the Daredevil star revealed how he found out Andrew was reprising his role as Spider-Man on No Way Home:
"So I texted him “If the trades are to be believed, we are in the same movie”. And he replied saying “No dude, I am doing Spider-Man”. So I wrote back saying “Yeah, we are in the same movie”."
- Charlie Cox
Funnily enough, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock wasn't included in Andrew's version of the script. That's a strategy that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been using for quite some time now. Tom Holland, who was well-known for leaking information ahead of time, has stated his script of Avengers: Endgame concluded with "Tony Stark's wedding" - an event that ultimately didn't come to be. Furthermore, he didn't know who was he fighting when filming Avengers: Infinity War either. So it isn't a shock to learn Marvel created multiple scripts for Spider-Man: No Way Home as well considering it has been one of the biggest movies of 2021.
Charlie Cox continued his story by revealing Andrew Garfield and he met up while filming the movie in Atlanta - and it wasn't until they were in a restaurant that they realized it was a bad idea. A single photograph of the two of them eating together in the same area where a Spider-Man movie was filming would've cleared any doubts from audiences' minds. So they had to settle for eating at a table that was facing the wall in an attempt to keep their reunion a secret.
Hopefully, Spider-Man: No Way Home won't be the last time we see them together on the big screen portraying Marvel characters. Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are just around the corner, and rumor has it they will take place in Battleworld; a reality ruled by Doctor Doom comprised of all different Marvel universes. If that ends up happening, then both Andrew's Spider-Man and Charlie's Daredevil would be in the same place. Is an interaction between the two of them too much to ask? Fingers crossed the answer is a clear "no".
