Matthew McConaughey up for iconic Spider-Man villain role in Marvel reboot?

Matthew McConaughey is a terrific actor by any standard on both the big and small screen with critically acclaimed roles in Dallas Buyer’s Club and True Detective. Which is why I’m more than a little excited to hear that his name is being tossed around in association with a role in the next Spider-Man movie.

However it’s not just any role, it’s a super villain role! And it’s not just any super villain role, it’s the most iconic Spider-Man super villain out there. That’s right folks, the internet rumour mill is actually suggesting that Oscar winning McConaughey could be about to take a turn as Spidey’s arch nemesis and greatest foe, Norman Osborn aka The Green Goblin.

Now, if this were to actually happen the movie would be worth the price of an admission ticket purely for McConaughey alone as I think he’d relish an opportunity to lend his considerable acting chops towards creating an iconic and memorable Marvel Cinematic Universe villain. But before we get too carried away, let’s look at where this idea came from.

The above video is from The Hashtag Show and to be fair to them, as screenrant.com point out, they’ve actually got a number of things right before in terms of superhero movie scoops. They were the originators of the rumour that revealed the fate of Quicksilver, which turned out to be true, amongst other things, but this really would be a huge scoop for them!

I’m excited for the possibility but I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
