2 reasons why Spider-Man 4 should be a multiversal movie (and 3 it doesn't)
Why it should: It can serve as closure to characters that lack their own saga
If we assume Spider-Man 4 winds up being a multiversal movie, chances are it will feature fan favorites such as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parkers, or Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock. All of them are characters that currently lack a franchise of their own, meaning their story won't move forward in another stand-alone movie. We'd only be able to see their comeback in a multiversal project such as Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or, possibly, Spider-Man 4. However, given how crowded the first two projects are going to be, the latter seems like the ideal place.
Fans have been eager to watch Tom Holland stand on his own and save the day without the support of someone else. If I'm being honest, I'd like nothing more than Spider-Man 4 to be a street-level movie that sees Peter Parker deal on his own with the consequences of No Way Home, with no cameos or other heroes involved. However, there's no denying Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield had premature endings to their respective franchises. Their story wasn't supposed to end the way it did, and the only way for them to have some sort of real closure is in Spider-Man 4.
Likewise, Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock won't have any more movies of his own. And while his story did get a better ending than the previous versions of the wall-crawler, there's no denying it feels incomplete since he never crossed paths with Spider-Man. Fans have eagerly awaited to watch him get the white spider logo and fight the friendly neighborhood hero on the big screen for six years now. His character was created specifically to be a Spider-Man villain, even if he eventually became the Lethal Protector and earned multiple comic book series of his own. So why not give him the chance to go back to his roots in Spider-Man 4?
Another multiversal adventure may not be what we want right now for the wall-crawler. However, it may be our last chance of ever getting one in a really long time, speaking of which...
