Nick Lowe acknowledges Spider-Verse ‘Editorial Doofs’

Spider-Verse was a fairly complicated event, there were off-shoots and spin-offs and accompanying miniseries and the whole thing needed to be carefully tied together and well managed. The job of doing such a thing was current Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe and for the most part he did a good job!

Admittedly there were a few errors here and there. For example Miles Morales and Black Widow (Ultimate Spider-Woman) were introduced as being from the wrong Earth-designation. A couple of other characters throughout the series would go on to be introduced from the wrong Earth.

Another small issue was the unclear reading order with several Spider-Verse comics coming out at the same day. Amazing Spider-Man #13 coming out at the same time as Spider-Woman #3, Scarlet Spiders #3 and Spider-Verse Team-Up #3. The problem was that the Amazing Spider-Man title gave away the ending to Scarlet Spiders #3.

Also because there were so many titles there were also a few small continuity errors where events should, or shouldn’t have happened yet and characters knew, or talked about things that happened when they weren’t there. For example in Amazing Spider-Man #15 Silk references the mutated spiders that Spider-Ben and Mayday Parker fight in Spider-Verse Team-Up #3 even though she wasn’t there so shouldn’t know about them?

These are all errors that Nick Lowe has recently referenced and put his hands up for! None of these errors were big in any way but it’s nice to see that the current editor is aware that some small mistakes were made. Lowe commented on this editorial errors in a recent interview he did with Newsarama when asked how he thought the Spider-Verse went.

"went even better than I could have imagined. I couldn’t be happier with the story (other than a few editorial doofs on my side) and fan response has been overwhelmingly positive."

He does go on to remind Spider-Fans that this was his first big Spider-Man event so it’s understandable (although not forgivable) that there were some teething issues and that some errors slipped through Lowe’s fine editorial toothcomb! We so all make mistakes after all!
