Spider-Man director Marc Webb needs to do an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

facebooktwitterreddit

I first realised that Marc Webb had been nominated for an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge whilst browsing fellow Spidey super-fan SevenWebHeads’ site. Complete with Spider-Man arm-bands Seven himself did the ALS Ice Bucket challenge like a champ, following in the footstep of so many celebrities, semi-famous internet personalities and normal people before him. He then nominated Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb!

That was almost two weeks ago. That’s right folks, not only has Marc Webb shown a blatant disregard for the 24 hour rule, but he is still yet to post a video of him doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, or even acknowledge it. Now, I’m not normally one to use social media to peer pressure celebrities into doing ridiculous things disguised as charitable acts but here’s why Marc Webb needs to do it.

Marc Webb is the man behind the reigns of one of, if not, the most popular superheros ever in Spider-Man and as such he has a responsibility to conduct himself in a manner befitting of Spidey himself. Now, one of the reasons why Spider-Man is so popular is because he’s a very literal underdog, Spider-Man is the little guy who stands in the face of overwhelming adversity and does his absolute best. Basically if there’s one comic book hero who can understand and get behind the plight of ALS and other Motor Neurone Disease sufferers it’s Spider-Man, that’s because the brave men, women and children who contract the disease are cursed by the very same ‘Parker Luck’ that has dogged Peter his whole life, and every single day of their lives is full of so much adversity and so many challenges to overcome. In many ways what Parker does through in the comic books just simply doesn’t compare, well, that and the fact he’s fictional.

And that folks is why Marc Webb needs to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. So I implore you take to Twitter, take to Facebook, use whatever social media you can find and let’s try and make this happen! Also it’s was his birthday yesterday so let’s all get him a present!
