More on the Spider-Man story in Marvel: 75th Anniversary Celebration #1

Marvel are releasing a bumper sized comic issue entitled Marvel: 75th Anniversary Celebration #1 which is bringing together new and old writers and artists for some pretty special Marvel stories. When it comes to Spider-Man we were getting comic book legends Tom DeFalco and Stan Goldberg reuniting to bring us a Spidey tale worthy of a big anniversary.

However that was all we really knew about it, until now. That’s because DeFalco and Goldberg have recently conducted an interview for Marvel.com and low and behold the thing they’re talking about is their special Spider-Man story for the anniversary comic. I guess us Spider-Fans really do have the opposite of Parker luck because we’re just the luckiest.

Tom DeFalco described the scope of the story and what he and Goldberg were going for “That Parker Boy” is sort of a Peter Parker story told in the Archie style. It’s also a whole lot more. My goal was to combine the Archie style with the Marvel style to tell a real Spider-Man story—a story that clearly established Peter Parker and his friends, touched on Peter’s various personal conflicts, exhibited his powers as Spider-Man  and also included a real with villain with a credible threat—and do it all within five pages. What can I say? I love a creative challenge.”

We also know a little bit more about the comic thanks to the official, albeit incredibly brief, synopsis that has been given with the comic which is as follows “As Spider-Man battles the Kingpin, Peter Parker’s pals -n- gals lament his absence, in a story by Tom DeFalco and Stan Goldberg.”

So there we go the villain will be Kingpin, which seems like a reoccuring theme in these Spider-Man based anniversary stories as Kingpin was the villain of Marvel’s 100th anniversary Spider-Man special for which you can read the recap and the review here. However, if you look at the preview page for the Spider-Man story you’ll see that it’s going to be noticeably different as they weren’t kidding about doing it in an Archie style.
