Disney Infinity to include Spider-Man?

Disney Infinity recently announced that Marvel characters would be available as in-game playable characters for Disney Infinity with a second Disney Infinity game entitled Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes. The game itself is an action adventure sandbox game that allows the player to build and battle their way through whilst playing as popular Disney, and now Marvel characters. In a similar way to Activision’s Skylanders franchise the game uses collectable figurines that are then synchronized with the game allowing that character to feature in the game.

Now the comparison to Activisions Skylanders is interesting because one of the biggest Disney debates is that they don’t own the rights to one of Marvel’s most popular heroes, Spider-Man. We all know that Sony own the film rights but some of us might not have known that Activision own the solo-game rights. So there is a question about whether or not Spidey would appear in Disney Infinity.

However it looks like a deal between all parties must have been made because in the new expansion’s announcement trailer the last thing you see is Spider-Man swinging towards the screen. This means he’s definitely in the game! It doesn’t however tell anyone whether or not he’ll be a playable character, or whether or not there’ll be a Spider-Man figurine. Here’s the announcement trailer video.

We also the popular Spider-Man villain Green Goblin flying through the city and destroying a bunch of stuff before Spidey swings into the screen. Is it possible that there’ll be a villain set featuring Goblin, Loki and Modok who were also seen in the trailer? Either way this means it’s pretty much guaranteed that Spider-Man will be in the game.

But wait there’s more! In the latest trailer you can see the Incredible Hulk, rather bizarrely, driving around the city in the Spider-Mobile. Spider-Man’s much maligned automobile from the 70’s.

So it would seem it’s only a matter of when, not if, we get a Spider-Man figurine in Disney Infinity. That’s good news right, this means that we can finally see Spider-Man with the Avengers, it might be our only chance!
