Whilst the possibility of seeing new villains in the cinematic Amazing Spider-Man universe is an exciting one, with the Sinister Six, Venom and Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4 set to introduce some new characters we haven’t seen before, it’s also exciting to speculate about when we’ll be seeing existing villains again.
It seems a given that we’ll be seeing Amazing Spider-Man 2’s villains again with Rhino and Green Goblin being heavily involved in the Sinister Six on first appearances and the focus on Electro’s electricity metre when he ‘died’ seems to suggest we’ll be seeing him again. But what about the villain from the first Amazing Spider-Man film, the Lizard?
Well Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach were recently asked in an interview on Indiewire whether or not we’ll be seeing the Lizard again and Tolmach replied “There’s no never.” Which I’m sure you can all agree isn’t helpful in the slightest. Thankfully Avi Arad does go on to add a bit more about the possibility of a Lizard return.
He says “All I can tell you is that we’ve never had more of an opportunity, by establishing Oscorp as the station from which it’s all coming. You can do a whole new vision of what the Lizard will look like next time,” Tolmach chimes in “We don’t know. And honestly these villains happen only after we decide what Peter’s story is – who are the villains best suited to put him under pressure? And that’s how we arrive at things.”
So basically they’re not ruling a Lizard return out. This means that we have more chance of seeing Lizard return than we do of seeing a different character than Peter Parker playing Spider-Man.
