It’s official Gwen Stacy dies in Amazing Spider-Man 2

Gwen Stacy will die in the Amazing Spider-Man 2

The fate of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy has been one of the big talking points in the build-up to Amazing Spider-Man 2, with many suggesting that the fateful encounter so popular in the comic-books that sees Gwen Stacy die will be coming to the big screen sooner than we first thought.

There’s certainly been several things to support this theory! Sony have focussed on the relationship between Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker and Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy a lot with the first international trailer, a featurette and an extended clip showing the couple’s relationship. Pictures have also circulated of Gwen wearing the same clothes that she wore in the comic-books on the day she died.

But it was still only a possibility until quite recently, however I now believe that it’s almost beyond doubt that Gwen dies now. That’s because the final trailer and the sneak peek press event have conspired to eliminate all doubt that this would happen. Unless of course we’re all being severely mis-led.

Lets tackle the sneak peek press event first! MTV reported the following.

"Before the screening started covers and images from Spider-Man comics flashed on-screen, including pictures of the villainous Green Goblin. Right before introducing the screening, though, two particular images flashed on-screen: the cover to “Amazing Spider-Man #121”; and a scene from the issue set on the Brooklyn Bridge."

Issue #121 is the issue that Green Goblin kidnaps Peter’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy and drops her, Spider-Man then attempts to save her but inadvertently snaps Stacy’s neck and she dies. The fact that this moment has been heavily hinted at by Sony at their press event seems to be a great big indicator that it’s happening

Still don’t believe me? What if I can tell you the exact moment that it happens and show you a picture of it? That’s because the final trailer pretty much shows us when Gwen will die! Take a look at the picture below that shows the Green Goblin getting the better of Spider-Man as they fight inside the Clock Tower.

Gwen Stacy dies

In the above scene from the trailer Green Goblin is about to deal a final blow to Spider-Man with a blade. However to the left of the cog you can just see Gwen Stacy hanging from a web string that you can see Peter holding in his right hand. Spider-Man will dodge the blow from Goblin’s blade but it will sever the web Gwen is holding and she will fall to her death!
